I own a 99D1. I've read posts in the past about CDLs that go from HI to LO and SIDE to SIDE. Moving the selector from HI to LO does what? (besides selecting a lower gear ratio I would assume)
Moving the selector from SIDE TO SIDE (if possible) does what? Supply equal power to both wheels? Supply the most power to the wheel with traction? Is the differential already locked and HI and LO can only be selected? So many questions!
Can a DISCO-PRO summarize by stating:
HI does this:
LO does this:
LO LEFT does this:
HI RIGHT does this:

Sorry for the ignorance. None of the past posts explains in black-n-white. Thanks in advance for my education!

hi= road range...used for all dasy to day use

lo= reduces the gear ratio to supply multiplied torque to allow more controlled power application in off-road and technical driving.

left both high/low= locking of the CDL, this sends 50% of the power to each axle. (they turn togather)

right both high/low= open CDL this allows the axles to turn at different speeds to prevent feedback due to binding caused by the different distances the axles travel in corners.

Disco Series 1, 1994-1999 (North America) has locking center diff standard (left/right). You have a 1999? Both series 1 and 2 were made in 99. How high are your brake lights? Waist height or shoulder height?
