What's the torque for the oil drain plug? I can't remember (it's that over 40 thing...) David |

torque? Just tighten it until it doesn't drip. |

In other words... "Torque wrenches? We don't need no stinking torque wrenches!"??? Seriously, it would be good to know anyway. Thanks! David |

Good luck trying to find a socket and torque wrench that will fit in there. On my truck ('95 5 speed) the exhaust is in the way. Unless you can find a short 1.25" socket (or grind one down to size) you may be out of luck. ---Norm |

Make that a 1-1/8th" socket or wrench. |

31MM. Doesn't anyone know this? This is the second discussion where nobody knew this. A 1 1/8" will round off the drain plug over time if you do not replace it every few oil changes. |

Adjustable Wrench fits nicely too. Just watch those edges. |

"as tight as you can get it..." Right. Only if like stripping the threads on your oil sump drain, so you'll either have to replace your oil pan or someday the plug will fall out while your driving down the freeway and you'll end up buying a new engine. Don't believe anyone who has to post by "Anonymous" -- he's probably either a graduate of the "Oil Changers Academy" or the service manager of a LR stealership trying to create expensive repairs so he can buy a new boat with his Christmas bonus. "tight as you can get it" my ass!!! 1-1/8" works just fine unless you're pounding it on with a sledge hammer. 40 Nm is only 29 ft.lbs. and the LR drain plug is pretty robust -- if you're rounding off the corners you're putting it on waaaayy too tight. ---Norm |

Didn't know I'd create such a fuss over my simple question! Thanks for all the answers. BTW, anonymous, it's not 31mm, it's 29. Kinda easy to remember now; 29mm, 29 lb. ft. Thanks again to all! David |
