Just noticed a pool of coolant under my '95 Disco. Under the hood I saw that coolant was spewing out under pressure from the bottom of the plastic fill reservoir. Can anyone tell me the best way to fix this until I can get a new one? Thanks, Norm |

Mine cracked along the side seam a few weeks after I bought my truck at 58k miles. Buy a new one and replace. Avoid the dealer and you'll save some dough. Easy do it yourself job. |

Well, I plan on getting a new one ASAP -- but that's going to take some time since it's the weekend and the nearest dealer is 120 miles away. I just need a quick fix until I get a new one sent to me. I'm about to bandaid it with some coolant hose repair tape, but that stuff never stays on very long. I'm wondering if there's a more durable fix (like some sort of sealant) that will stand up to the heat and pressure. Any ideas? Thanks, Norm |

I saw some crazy coolant expansion tank repair kit at Kragen today. It might be worth checking out for a quick fix. |

we did a quick fix last weekend on a busted seem on a '95 using some silicone and duct tape. clean well before applying and make sure tank is no more than 1/2 full. better if only 1/4 full. less pressure the better. should not be an expensive item. |

About two years ago, I had a similar problem on my 95 Disco1. The bottom nipple on the reservoir completely blew off and was still connected to the hose. I tried to see if there was a way to fix that without replacing the reservoir but to no avail. What I ended up doing was pulling the coolant reservoir out of my 1986 VW GTI and installing that in the Disco until I could go out and buy the replacement reservoir. Worked perfectly fine and it's back in the GTI! |

Patch with the tape and leave the cap off. That way the pressure doesn't build up and blow your repair off. Don't drive real hard like this. The pressurization of the system prevents the water from boiling at temp, so you could boil off the coolant if you drive far or hard without the cap on. cheers -jeff |
