The back window on my '96 Discovery has shattered. I'm still not sure how it happened, but it did. Has anyone replaced the glass themself? I found a replacement glass from a salvage and I was wondering if I could replace it myself or hire it out. I already called a local auto glass place and theyquoted me $100, performed at my home. They also said that I would need new weatherstriping for the replacement, is this correct? Is the weatherstriping attached to the window with glue or something or could I use the old weatehrstriping from the broken window on the replacement glass? Also, any recommendations on where to get the new weatherstriping? I think the local LR Dealer wanted $80. Anyone have a part number? Any input you could give me while I wait for the replacement glass to be shipped to me would be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff |

BTW, just for clarification, this is the cargo door window, not the back passenger doors. Jeff |

Oh, BTDt Pay the glass people! This is from someone who does his own tranny work. Pay them to do it! I spent forever trying to get it to work and I finally gave up in disgust. In fact the best way is just to drive over to a glass place about closing time with $40 (or less). It only takes them 5-10 minutes with thier tools (rope and a suction thing and some lever looking things). You can reuse the old weatherstripping. I did. Ron PS the cause of my glass shattering was obvious |

Ron, Thanks for the info. I will most likely have the glass people do it since I don't have any of my tools with me. As for the cause, I think I might have chipped the glass on the garage door opener arm while I had it parked in the garage. And when I closed the door it must have shattered. Don't see any holes or other chips. Dunno. Thanks again. |
