Howdy again,

I was thinking about the 2" OME springs and shocks but some have said there is a a driveline vibration and that highway manners are compromised somewhat. Maybe there is an OME that retains the stock height but adds some flexibilty? IE longer travel shocks but with stock springs? I want to make the Disco as off road worth as possible but retain the stock steering geometry / highway performance.

Has anyone had good luck with the Bridgestone Duellers? or the All Terrains? Are they very noisy on the road? Oh, I'd like to keep the tire price around $100.

Cheers,

ok, i have a 97' Disco and and had the same question you have. So, i asked everyone and called everyone and ended up with this:
97' Disco
OME Springs HD Front and MD Rear. It's the perfect height, it's an even height. I can't remember the numbers though. I'll be home tommorrow and can give them to you if you want. Also, Bilstein shocks front and rear. Great ride. Work great with the springs. And, BFGoodrich A/T's KO series stock size. I love them. No road noise. An agressive tread for off-road but maintaining a nice highway ride.

OME Springs- ExpeditionExchange.com
Bilstein shocks-roverconnection.com
BFG's-believe it or not, Wal-Mart, but they cant put them on. They dont have a socket big enough to fit the lug size, or at least they didnt here.

If you have any questions let me know.

Cooper: Awesome! Thats just what I'm looking for! I found that the BFG A/T KOs are available in 235/70/R16! And you say that the heavy OME in the front (compensate for engine) and medium in the rear along with blistens works great? EXCELLENT !

Thanks for the info! I will look for the part numbers.

Cheers!

I'll just add that I went with this setup but with heavy's in the rear as well. I expect to be pretty heavy with gear in the rear, so if this is you, consider the heavy's in the rear as well. If mostly unladen mediums should suffice. I also have a roofrack which isn't light! Good Luck.

And my vote for tires is the Dunlop Radial Rovers 235/85/16 on a Disco I. I just got my tires and I couldn't be happier.

Almost forgot the tires are the Radial Rover R/T's! Aggressive, but quiet onroad. Should be stock!

Another path to consider is going with the RTE 2" lift springs, front and rear. Without bumpers, winch, etc, they can actually give you about a 3" lift (to compensate for the weight of the bumpers, winch, sliders when installed) without sacrificing the ride comfort (too much) and without the other considerations associated with the 3" lift.

An alternative tire that I have been using since August is the Yokohama Geolandar A/T II+ 245/75 R16 - great tread pattern, quiet on the highway, does what you want for less - about $90 on TireRack.

The Rover Tyme stuff looks cool and a bonus is that I live in the same city as John, but I have heard that the drivelines dont like lifts (with out other mods). My rear driveshaft dosen't even have 2 u-joints, the rubber thing dosen't look like it would appreciate being lifed. :(

So since $$ is a big factor I will probably just stay stock for now and get the HD LR srpings and the Bilstein Shocks.

Certainly, driveline problems are an unhappy and rather expensive proposition. While there can be no absolute guarantees, the chances for driveline problems are minimized using a 2" lift.

I put the 2" RTE springs on my Disco1 (which effectively raised it 3") and have experienced no driveline difficulties whatsoever. So far, the only suspension mods on my Disco are the 2"RTE Springs, Bilstein HD Shocks and Yokohama 245/75R16 tires.

My '93 has King Springs (Australian) with about 2" lift, Bilsteins all 'round and BFG A/T KO's in 245 75 R16. Minor steering bump stop tweaking and rear wheel arch trimming required - but well worth it. My original set up (stock) with Michelin 205 80 R16's and standard springs/shocks was very average in performance on & off road. Left me stranded on a few occasions - but now with the new setup - so far so good!!

RTE has also stock height springs that have a higher spring rate - Though the ones I've seen installed actually add about 1 - 1 1/2" - not enough to cause any vibes. Call John.

OK, here's the numbers.
Front OME HD's - 751
Rear OME MD"s - 764

this gave me about 1.5-2.0 inches of lift. I dont bear heavy load in the rear that often so thats why i didnt get the HD's for the rear. This combo sits level with a good height. You will not need break line extensions either. It's not high enough to mess anything up.

Cool thanks Cooper.

I just my roversnorth.com catalog and they recommend the the Land Rover HD front and rear and they have a package with 4 Bilstiens for $580.

This sounds like what you were saying too.

thanks!
