Hello all, I have to stand on top of the dang thing to get it locked or unlocked, not literally, but within like 2 feet of it. New battery in remote so that isn't the problem. Where is the antenna located for this system? I'm thinking that if I elongate it then I will eliminate this problem.. Thanks in advance.. RS

The antenna is in the pass side trim for the front window pillar.

This is not a joke, it actually works:

You can extend the range of your remote by pressing it against your jawbone while you press the button. You will look silly while doing it, but it works.

Jawbone works - it worked on my disco! Recommended by our UK, AA breakdown service.
Then buy a new handset battery of the correct type.

Stock antenna is only about 2" long - it is under the passenger side (under glove box) extending from the "black box" - you can extend it with some similar gauge wire to up the "A" pillar by soldering on an extension. Worked for me at least - can now open from about 50' away.

Under your chin will work too - I guess you are acting as half a parabolic reflector or something. Gives me about double the normal distance. :)

If you have fillings in your teeth they act as a amplifier for the signal. That is why holding it to your jaw or chin works. At least that is what I was told. Also works if you hold your mouth open with the remote right in front of it.
Weird stuff but it does work!!

You've got mail. You need to extend the antenna up the pillar and I wnet as far as across the top of the windshield. Works pretty well. The jawbone thing works but not as well.

Do all years have the 2"? I just removed all of my interior and (94) and my antenna runs about 1/2 way up my pillar. It looks factory from the glue that secures it.
