Going up a steep hill 2 weeks ago, my Disco stalled (airflow meter hose to the plenum came loose). I had to winch my self up the hill using just the battery power. I now want to install dual batteries. I have been told the best place for the 2nd one in a DI is in front of the air-intake. Obviously the trumpet must go. So what happens then, do I need a snorkel? Does anyone have a home made recipe for snorkel? Please help!

A snorkel isn't needed. cut the trumpet off and seal the hole. Then drill a new home on the side and put an elbow made from PVC that faces forward for ram air.

You don't have to actually "cut" the trumpet off. Just grab it and give a good wiggle and tug. It will pop right out with no trouble.

just make sure that when you add a new ram that it doesn't pick up any battery fumes, otherwise you may find the air flow meter packs it in. cut off trumpet and fill in then cut whole in the side of the filter but no ram or get a snorkel.

I installed dual batteries in my 98 Disco and all I did was take off the air box trumpet, remove the jack of course, and I also had to relocate my power steering reservoir. I mounted that on the side of the air cleaner box. I have been concerned about getting enough air in but I haven't experienced any change in engine performance. I was thinking about making the hole in the air cleaner box larger toward the top just to avoid any problems. A snorkel is nice but I don't think it's a must for this application.

Well! That was interesting. I thought this was a technical discussion.

There was some earlier mention about air flow, and the snorkel was brought up as a solution. I've been watching my disco's performance and haven't noticed anything different but a snorkel might be in the plan for me, only because having cooler air intake might improve the performance slightly and create other benefits.

I have a 98 Disco but I've seen earlier models with the solenoid(i think that's what it is) next to the power steering reservoir. This has to be moved also. I haven't thought this out yet but mine is located down lower next the radiator, which is harder to get to but at least out of the way.

Calling another guy's lady a C*** is WAY WAY out of line, joke or not. "Anonymous" posters grow huge keyboard muscles in cyberspace. Get bent.

Sell the Jeep and get your wife the Freelander. Then take her Disco! :-)

I agree with Rico & Dave. Anonymous, keep it to the point & the topic.

Dave M, there is some confusion, I don't have a J**p, I have a Disco I.

Jerry, can you provide details about the snorkel,,maybe pictures too.

Jose
