I went off roading today (In - 95 disco series I) playing around in the mud, and I was using the gas off and on pretty hard. After I got back on the road the rpms stayed at about 2500 when not accelerating. I pulled over and tried restarting the engine and I thought it was better but when I gave it gas It got up to forty mph and when I let off the gas to go to the brake the RPM's were stuck a 5000 and heavy braking with both feet barely stopped the vehicle. So during that heavy braking and the engine was practically redlining I shut off the engine and put it in park. Popped the hood didn't see anything obscure. Before I strarted walking home I tried to start it again and when it did, the RPMs immediatly jumped to the redline so I turned it off right away. There were no dash lights coming up through the whole ordeal. I think it might be the throttle potentiometer But I'm not sure. Could it be some sort of water damage? Any help is greatly appreciated. If it is the throttle potentiometer where is it on the truck and where can I get a new one.

Thanks for your time and any help you can give

Warren, I have had the exact thing happen to me. The disco's throttle stuck wide open. All it was some sticky mud. Grab the throttle and see if it is stuck (real obvious when you see it). If it is clean it off and then lube it up.

I have also seen a 90 where the motor mounts sheered and the engine sort of went at an angle putting the throttle wide open.

When my brother and I checked it out this morning looking at the throttle assembly a little closer there was a piece of mulch jammed in there. The more gas I gave it the further it got wedged in and that was my problem. Ill try to post a pic of the culprit.

Thanks for all of your help Ron and Kyle.
