A common questions, I'm sure... I'm a new Disco owner and I went through the owner's manual but I can't figure out what a certain button on the dash does. It doesn't appear to be in the manual either. It's a push button with a light indicator with a picture of two tracks (in perspective) and something across it. It's next to the front foglight button under the radio. When I push it, the light doesn't come on and nothing happens. I assume it's supposed to act like the front foglight button and light up when engaged and go dark when disengaged but it doesn't do anything. On what may be a similar note, my front driving lights (factory Hella lights installed on a factory front brush bar) do not work. Could this button be for those lights? I checked the fuses and they look okay. I'm sure it's an easy for you experienced Disco owners but it's got me stumped. Any help is much appreciated. Santo '98 LSE |

Cruise control master switch. Push it on, then the steering wheel controls will work. If it's off, the buttons on the wheel shouldn't do anything.... -L |

Thank you! That must have been in the "Cruise Control" part of the manual and not where all the other buttons are described I guess the lights are something else. Thanks again, Santo '98 LSE |

Santo, for the driving lights try this: turn the switch beside your newly discovered cruise master switch to 'on' then turn on your brights by the stalk mounted switch. That's how mine were wired from the dealer. Jeff |

The symbol on the cruise control button is the same as you will find on european road signs. The road sign indicates that you are on a class A highway, i.e. multiple lanes in each direction, separated with a middle divider. The symbol is supposed to be a 4 lane highway with a bridge across it. |

I'd seen signs in the UK with that symbol, and figured out that it must have to do with a freeway, but I'll agree, it looks like a surfboard (albeit with two stabilizer fins on opposite ends!)....

I actually think that's the "don't run over skatebords" button. I'm still trying to figure it out becasue I've run over three of the kids' skateboards w/ that button turned on... puzzling. Lynden |

JWConrad, Thanks for the "high beam" tip. The button you describe turns on my regular front fog lamps and turning on highbeams didn't work. It turns out that my lights are wired to the "rear fog lamps" button to the left of the steering wheel (2nd from top I think). I guess it could be wired either way but I have to switch high beams on for the driving fog lights to come on. This was the crucial step I missed when trying both switches. Strange how it would be wired differently then yours (I guess they are after market) but at least I know how they work now. Thanks again! Santo |

in england the same symbol is for "dual carriage motorway" or the freeway in amerispeak. so the other posters are correct. what's wierd is you haul ass in what to us is the slow lane, and you exit on the fast lane! it's all backwards really. lots of fun! average speed is 85mph, and the copper's drive volvo tr5 estates... steveII |
