seeing signs of rust under paint on alpine window. how hard is it to remove the alpine window gaskit or window to repair the rust.
Is this a DYS job or body shop job?

This sucks, Only 3 years old and alum body, and the steel roof rusts.

Thanks for any help.

I'm curious as well - rust is present on both alpine windows of my 94 AND my 95, but they don't leak so I'm tempted not to disturb them.

I also have rust on my rear door hinges and I posted a thread earlier asking if anyone knew of a manufacturer who sells chrome/stainless hinges for the D1. You can get just about any part you want for a Jeep in chrome or stainless, I would think someone would make them for Discos - there is certainly a market.

Similarly, I am in the process of working with a tooling company to manufacture stainless rear mudflap brackets for my D1's. The stock steel ones are $24 a piece for a single stamped piece of metal!! Here in the Northeast, they last about a week, and then $50 mudflap goes bouncing down the highway along with it...

Anyways, I'd like to hear what you folks have to say about those rusty window frames...

Ride On,
Chuckster

I WD40 my hinges every time I wash my truck. I live near the beach and no rust on the hinges yet. Just the alpine widows.

every discovery comes with a 6 year, unlimited mileage corrosion perforation warranty. if yours is only 3 years old, this should be fixed by the dealer for no charge.

Yeah, IF you've had your "Annual Corrosion Inspection", and have the records to prove it. Otherwise, you're in for a bumpy ride. Check the bottom of your C-Pillars too...

What annual corrosion inspection? I asked about replacing the rear side window gaskets once and they told me the rubber cracks because it's so hot here in NC. No one ever said that was a corrosion inspection.

I'll call the dealer on Tuesday and see what BS they come up with.

Thanks for the tip.

The rubber around the windows is covered under the Factory Warr. I had mine replaced @ 47mo & 48k mi.

Ok...but what about those of us who bought used with no warranty? Does the 6-year thing still apply?

Mine are rusting pretty badly. I live at the beach and compete in surf kayaking. By boats go directly from the ocean to my rack.

Salt water bad.

the car comes with a completely transferrable 6 year unlimited mileage warranty. If you bought your car used, it still applies. Usually the only time you run into a problem with the "annual corrosion inspection" is if the car is already completely eaten by cancerous rust and you bring it in to get fixed. They prefer the "nip it in the bud" approach to fixing rust. Techs should do the corrosion inspection when you are in for scheduled maintenance.
