There really isn't any adjustment that I am aware of for this problem. The transfer case has a simple solenoid as a safety that allows, or blocks, tcase shift if transmission is not in neutral. Additionally, there is a neutral switch that sounds an alarm when the transfer case is in a neutral position. You could drill out the tunnel aperture to get the needed elbow room and just replace the switch, or just reach up and behind your transfer case and uplug the damn thing and forget about it. It is just there for user error - not a real functional-dependant kind of situation. /mp |

Mike, Where is it connected? or do I just pull, and the first thing that should release is the chiming sensor??? |

Sam - There are about five different plugs around there, including two O2 sensors, shift-lock solenoid and speed-sensor multi-plug. So I don't recommend just reaching up there and pulling a wire (grin). There are only two sets of wires coming from the TOP of the transfer case, however. One leads to a regular square plastic multi-plug (that's from the solenoid), and the others lead to a round rubber plug connection above (that's the neutral switch alarm plug). I just tried this, and it is very difficult to reach when lying below the vehicle, but it's there. It might take you a while to blindly follow the wire out of the tcase tap and up to the plug (it's only about 6 or 8 inches of wire - but it's very tight quarters). Your other option is to go in from the inside, through the tcase shifting aperture, but the bottom plate is held with rivets, so you will have to drill em out and replace them when finished. If you're not planning on replacing it, I would try blindly tracing it from below first. Good luck, Mike |

Now my question is: Is the CDL fully engaging? It cluncks, etc...but should I consider the range of motion is limited, and therefore causing the neutral chime, or a faulty switch? It has popped out after being engaged on steep incline, where torque is really being trasferred? Thanks for the help...everybody!!! |
