Just had to replace my injectors on 95 D1 with 85,000. Turned out the reason why the injectors clogged up was the fule rail had rusted. Nice job LR - $100 part cost me $1,000. Beware all

Hey Rossie, did you get everything all fixed up on that rig? Sorry about the fuel rail but at least you 'discovered' it(pun intended) before you had to replace the second set of injectors.

Hope things are working out ok. Good Luck.

The fuel rail is what the fuel injectors are attached to. Runs around the top of the motor inside the valve covers below the black case that says 4.0 (or 3.9) or whatever. It rusts from the inside out and the small 'flakes of rust are what ruin the small seats in the fuel injectors, causing them to leak into the cylinder making it start hard and idle rough. Now you know.

Is there any fuel additive you can use to avoid this problem?

Yes. The main reason it rusted internally was indeed, water and condensation in the fuel, eventually residing in the fuel rail. Fuel based water blends-alchohol basically, is used to 'mix' the water, into a combustible, and is found at any parts place.

Sean,
Still working on it. I finally caved in and took it to an import garage. They quoted me $200 for the job which is worth it to me.
I'll let you know how it works when it's done.
