Hi,

96 Disco SD. No factory fogs.
I connected two 55w hella fogs to the factory fog light connections, added the relay and switch I got from Nathan. Everything worked great for about 2 minutes. Then a "pop" and I lost the fog lights and right headlight low beam. Of course this sounds like a fuse, but I can't figure out the relation between the lo beam and the fogs. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Mark,
You might already know this, and I'm speaking of the DII. The factory fogs will only work with the low beams.

Carl
I'm sure that didn't help..sorry.

Fuse. May need to uprate it 10 amps higher size if it blows again. If that size subsequently blows, then I waould suspect incorrect wiring.

The fuse is supposed to blow when too much load is on the circuit. 55W X 2 fogs, is 110w; divide by voltage(14.x) and you have the 'new' amperage draw, passing thru the circuit/fuse. Try a 10 amp higher fuse on the rt low beam circuit, since that circuit is delivering all the new fog lamp load. Cheers- doug

Wouldn't 55 watts be 55 watts? Mark wired them to the existing fog wiring which support 55 watt stock lights. If there is another problem, increasing the fuse rating may not be the solution.

Mark, did you check the fuses to see if one is blown? I don't imagine the fuse would make a loud pop though, would it? They in my experience I haven't noticed a noise with a fuse going out unless something maybe shorted it out. Also, maybe the relay blew out. Not sure if this is possible, but if it is 5 to 6 years old it could have failed I guess.

I would check the fuse first to see if replacing with a new fuse brings things back on.... even if only momentarily.

Then check for a short in your wiring if it blows again.

Then check the relay.

If none of that fixes your delima, you may have a more serious problem.

Ooops... Didn't see the part about no prior fogs. With that in mind, I would say Doug may be on to something. The fuse may not be as high on a non-fog rover as on one with fogs.

Sorry for prior rambling, but was assuming you removed factory fogs and replaced.

Thank you for the help. I triple checked my wiring, then I increased the rt. low beam fuse from 10 to 20 amps the problem was resolved.

Thanks again.
