Rig is a 1998, 83k miles. After a recent off road, I noticed a "clunk" on acceleration from a stop. Never noticed it before, so I speculate that the extra flex sent something subtle over the edge. It seems to come from right under the front seats, but my wife and I both think it is OUR seat! Bushings look ok on a visual, but I figure it may be time to go for a kit anyway... I have read that the rear links are the most common cause of suspension noises? Anyone have experience with the various urethane kits or feedback to offer on likely culprits? Also, while I am shotgunning, I plan on replacing any "common wear" items. Thoughts from the gurus of DiscoWeb? |

I too have a mystery clunk, I've got 75k D1 It seens as though it's in the front end. it heavy rains it seems to quiet, and after i grease everything in the front end it quiets, I've had mine up on a lift with a 3ft pry bar and cannot find play in anything, so i just grease up after each outing. If you find your cause, please tell! Good luck. |

I'm not sure what you're actual problem is, but do you have the rear step for the rear bumper? I developed this very noticable clunk when I would hit a small bump. It took me about two weeks to figure out that the stupid step would come down slightly when hitting the bump and then would clunk when reaching the top again. |

I have solved MOST of my clunking problems with new ball joints and shocks. Given your mileage, it might be time to investigate replacing both-in addition to bushings. After having to pay a dealer for a starter install last week, my bushings are furthur away. |

I've got a strange clunk too. 1/2 second after a hard acceleration I hear the clunk and then a quick deceleration will create a double clunk. I don't have any idea what the noise could come from. I really noticed this after installing arb rear locker. What I need is another truck to drive to see if I can reproduce the clunk. Anyone else experience this same thing? Brian Friend |
