Hey guys. Want to first say thanks to all the great information in the postings. I have avoided some very costly repairs at land rover thanks to you guys. anyway, my 96 disco (65000 miles) will start fine, but is running like crap. It will barely idle, has lost alot of power, the engine pops alot, has trouble downshifting because the rpms wont rise normally. Seems like it gets some power back at about 3500rpm. Feels like it is starved for fuel, but I just checked the pressure on the valve at the rail and its at 37psi. I ran it through a deep puddle, and it ran fine. Parked it and 2 hours later, all these problems started. Took a while to start, Drove it for a 1/2 hr on the highway, and when got home, it would not start again for a couple of hours. Now it is still barely running. Please help!!! |

You may have problem with injectors, coil or the distributor. Check the coil, put upside down and see if leaks. if does change it right ways. and the distributor check if make a wierd sound when is in idle. is the vacum advance.if you have any question you can e mail me. |

96's have an electronic ignition. the ECM (engine control module) might have gotten wet. i've seen disco's go through a small puddle on the trail and the engine died shortly afterwards. have you changed your plug wires, they may be arching. |

Where is the engine control module? I was just at auto barn to buy plugs, wires, distributor, coil and anything else I could think of dealing with the ignition and the guy comes back with plugs and says the rest is not listed and is probably unserviceable. |

Seems like whatever was wet, it has dried out 48hrs later and is running fine |

the ECM is in the engine bay on the passenger side fender. there is no coil or distributor on a 96+ disco. |
