I have finally managed to trade wheels from 18in to 16in. So now I can get bigger tires more suitable for off road. I also am going with a OME suspension. Now I must choose tire size and type. I am thinking of going with BFG All-Terrain 265-75/16 or 165-70/16. Anyone have any suggestions on size, or another tire, preferably a all terrain, as these tires will probably spend more time on the road than off.

i vote for 265/75-16. i think they look real nice under the disco2.

if you dont' encounter much snow where you live, consider the MTs as well.

235/85-16 would get my vote if it was for a disco1.
but the 16 inch alloys on the disco2 are 16x8, and i find it a bit too wide to mount my favorite 235/85-16 tires.... well, assuming will has the stock alloys... :)

I've got the 265/75 Dunlops R/Ts on my D2 with the offset wheel and yes, looks pretty cool w/the OME lift and the R/Ts do very nicely off road, not great in mud, pretty good climbing trees and clean themselves quite well. THey're also much quieter than I thought they would be. No matter what, keep close tabs on your tire pressure, makes a big difference.

I have the disco II and will have the stock alloys. Do the 235/85-16 stick out at all, I want something that doesnt stick out. Just curious. Also, what do you all think about trading my 18 in wheels for the 16 in wheels. Do I really gain anything by keeping teh 18in wheels.

thats' what it looks like with stock alloys and 265/75-16

235/85-16 are too narrow to be mounted on your stock alloys.

How are the BFG MTs on the road? Any difference from the All Terrain?

What about the goodyear wrangler mt/r. The tire rack gives it a better rating than the bfgs, but then again, I am not quite sure what I am looking at.

i personally can't tell the difference on road between MTs and ATs.

i don't have snow/ice here, so i can't comment on that either, but by looking at the tread pattern, the ATs would do much better on wet/slippery road than the MTs would.

MT/Rs seem to be liked by many.

forget the tire rating in the site. it's rated by customers that believe what they have is best. :)

I recently switched from MT's to AT's 'cause of the noise and ride. Admittedly, I spend most of my time on-road commuting to and from work, and don't venture off-road nearly as much as I thought I would. Plus, I take the Disco everytime we go out of town, so the drone of the MT's was wearing on me. I went from Futura Enforcer MT's (265/75/16) to the Yoko Geolander AT Plus II's (285/75/16). The Yoko's are great on the road, have an aggressive tread for an AT, and are completely silent. Of course, I haven't had a chance to try them off-road yet. Besides, I figure for the 10% chance that I hit real soupy mud, I have my winch!
