I cleaned the pump screen, then changed the oil preasure sender, but I am still getting the flickering at idle, but only everynow and then, not consistent so this makes it seem like its not the oil pump thats bad (wishfull thinking).?? Any suggestions? |

Did you ever have an oil pressure test done? Results? This is the very first thing to do if you get an oil pressure warning. Might as well do a cylinder compression check too, just for the hell of it. Did you check the wiring to the sending unit? |

Take the old pressure switch, remove (break off and drill out) the plastic part, thread the inside and run high pressure hose like from a grease gun to a oil pressure gauge (like from autozone or checkers). Now you can check you pressure. |

Like Crash says, if you can't find a ready-made oil pressure guage that will fit, you can fabricate one. For some reason, Rover uses an odd thread size on the sending unit, which doesn't fit standard guages, metric or SAE. After much searching, I ended up going to an industrial supply house for the correct fitting and rigged it with an oil guage and tubing from the local auto parts store -- probably not the most accurate guage in the world, but it gave me a pretty good idea of how much oil pressure I was getting. For a 3.9 "B" suffix motor, it should be putting out 40 psi at 2500 rpm with a warm motor. Check your service manual for the normal specs on your particular motor. Also, you might check your oil pick up tube for any clogs past the filter and replace if necessary, especially if the filter was gunked up. ---Norm |

Or , invest about the same amount of effort and put mains in the truck and fix it.... Kyle |

Damn -- changing the main bearings out seems like a pretty extreme and expensive substitute for doing an oil pressure check, especially if the mains aren't the problem. I'd have done an oil pressure check from the get go and then started looking at which direction to go replacing parts. BJ, do yourself a favor and get the oil pressure check done ASAP. ---Norm |

Guys, Just tap the blanking plug on top of the oil pump for whatever oil pressure gauge you buy. I got a mechanical gauge from Jegs for about $45. Now I can see my oil pressure anytime I want. For the price of you guys getting it checked, you can buy your own gauge and be through with it. -P |
