I am thinking about getting a XM radio in my D1. (94) Any advice? I am also thinking about installing a In-dash GPS unit also. Just wondering if anyone has done that before also!

Thanks Guys!

I've been thinking about XM too. I've already got a pioneer head unit that is xm ready but have been sitting on the fence about getting the tuner box. If you end up getting it, post with results of how "cd like" it really is.

I have XM in my D2,out of 100 stations i only listen to 3 that are ok once in a while. Not all the stations are commerical free and most stations are country and bluegrass, lol.
I wont resubscribe.

i was in the market for a new sytem for my RR. i wanted to get an indash cd/mp3 with an 5 disc changer and XM. turns out if you get a cd changer it will use the jacks that the XM will use, i guess there is an antenna or something that ussed the RCA jacks

point is, you cant have a changer and XM

;(

Sony has a great add-on system if you want to maintain the stock radio. If not, your choices are limitless. This model year nearly every manufacturer has come out with several models. As far as GPS...I would go with handheld(more versitile). Unless you are wanting navigation, then I would go with Kenwood. They have a nice in-dash TV/DVD/Navigation/CD unit with a motorized 7inch widescreen. It will fit in the stock location. It will cost you over $3grand with navigation!!!! Remember with XM you have to subscribe to service(much like DSS).

I have an XM radio, and I love the classic Country and Bluegrass. I also like listening to ESPN and CNN. I think those things are great.

Thanks guys! If anyone has pics of what they have done in regards to GPS (navi purposes) and XM radio..please post. Im still on the fence about XM, but if sony has an add on system for the stock radio, then I would be interested in doing it!

Thanks!

For GPS, if you have a laptop, get a Delorme Earthmate with Street Atlas Deluxe($150). It's great with voice recognition and voice directions. Also get Topo USA 4.0, $99 but worth it for offroading (DVD rom is the best as cd rom is 7 disks), it makes incredible 3d maps and shows trail profiles, etc. All this for less than a good stand-alone GPS. Great fun.

Street Atlas is great. The Delorme Earthmate is not. I have't seen TOPO4 but if its anything like 3.0, I wouldn't recommend it unless you REALLY need topo features. The interface is very clumsy.

A good standalone GPS can be had for about $100-$150 and is certainly worth it in my opinion. I have both a Magellan 315 (backup unit) and a Garmin 3.

Good luck with your purchase.

topo4 tracks you in 3d. you dont just use it for viewing.

i agree, get the DVD if you can.

i have topo3 and am quite satisfied. i mainly use it to view & print topo's for hiking and gallivanting but i dont use it as a gps platform. i have my fishfinder for that.

Hello, I just got xm installed in my 95 D1 ... the quality is excellent, however.... the stations suck, i only listen to literly 3-6 stations out of the 103 stations. They are not all commercial free.. and most stations are types of music that even your mother wouldnt listen to... Very unsatisfied with the programming, the quality however is is excellent.

I too am thinking of going to XM route. For those of you who had it installed where did you have them mount the antenna?
