Engine won't idle below 1000 rpm's. I think there is a vacuum leak. Could a bad stepper motor keep the motor from idling below 1000 rpm's ?

Check the timing to, I find that some Disco's tend to be sensative to timing.

replaced stepper motor didn't help at all. Still think that there is a vacuum leak but can't find one. I checked and rechecked all the lines coming from the intake, no leaks. Checked plugs and there is alot of carbon on them, just replaced about 3 months ago. Champion plugs were used, wouls a hotter plug get ride of this carbon?

Check for vac leaks using starting fluid,or carb cleaner, while engine idling/running. It is highly volatile and when 'leaking', will be injested varying the idle upward IF there are vac leaks.

Hotter plug would help marginally, but yes it would help. cheers-doug
