I am getting ready to put Firestone Destination M/T's on and I am thinking about using Equal Tire Balancer instead of balancing the tires. It seems kind of wierd but maybe it works. Does anyone have any experience with these products? Click on the links to check them out!

I got rid of my equal. It just couldn't seem to handle my 265/75 MTR's. Besides, its a PIA when it comes to airing down.

I use the equal in my tires. Went in without incident and have had no problems whatsoever airing down. I have not noticed any uneven wear on my tread or any other side effects.

I would highly recommend it.

I used it in an attempt to balance a set of "pre-balanced" 33x12.5 R15 Super Swampers SSR's. It did not work that well for me. If I maintained a constant speed it worked well enough. While accelerating or decelerating it would not balance as effectively. Overall it was better than nothing. It was not equivalent to a normal balance using lead weights.

It SHOULD be noted that I had to send the tires back and get a refund. The tires were not balanceable by the tire shop. They tried about 7-8 times and could not get it done. Without equal, with lead weights, the Jeep would vibrate so badly you could not read any gauges and it was difficult to watch the road b/c your eyes were bouncing around in your head. This was most notable around 68 mph. These tires sucked. If I had a different tire(s) it may have worked nicely. I can only give my recommendation based upon what I experienced.

I have equal in my MTRs and it is working just fine. I did however, pour the powder into the tire instead of just putting the whole bag in there.

I've seen where equal has warn out flat repair patches, that would normally outlast the tire. If you Plan on using equal, don't have any flats.

Ed:

I would read this thread if I were you before you purchase those Firestone tires: ../17/39680.html>

I'll sum it up--those tires are complete shit. I'd get Goodyear MTRs or BFG MTs if you are looking for a mud terrain tire.

My experience: 245/75 BFG MTs and Goodyear AT/Ss with Equal. No more trips to the tire store for balancing. Everythings fine so far.

In regards to airing down: A quick blast from a Powertank, then airing down is no problem. Airing back up is not a problem with the Powertank too.

Ran Equal for 44K, maybe 45K, on a set of Michelin LTXs 265 75 R16 on my old 2001 DSII. The tires wore beautifully, I would say perfectly. No hint of cupping, oruneven wear, just perfect wearing. I aired down with Equal, and I aired up with Equal. For 44 thousand miles, I never balanced my tires.

Ed,
Do not buy Destination MT's. They suck! I promise you, if you do any offroading they will start to tear at the lugs. One by one, you will start seeing hairline cracks, then complete lugs will rip off. Please read the link/thread Bill posted above. I know these tires are cheap and they look good, but honestly they are terrible.

Also, EQUAL is highly overated. I had it in my tires as well. It is a pain in the a$$ when airing down. Just stick with weights.

Well, I've tried it twice, with zero success both times. Now, they have both been on very aggressive tires, but still, I have had to have it removed from the tires both times and went with traditional leads weights. Both times the lead worked whereas the Equal had not.

Installed Equal 20K ago in BFG MTkm size 285/75's on my 110 and couldn't be better. Very even tire wear. Slow to air down, but I deal with the time. I'd do it again. Neil
