Why does my DISCO(D2) continue to roll while in Park? No, it's not doing this on the street. I had the rear end about six feet in the air. I was going to get out and inspect the articulation I was getting, but when let off the brakes in park, the DISCO continued to roll. BW |

It's just play in the drivetrain. It is mentioned in the manual. The parking break is on the prop shaft not the rear breaks like other trucks so there is a little play for it to inch forward before it stops. |

It's because you're dealing with three open diffs. I had mine parked in my driveway (which is on a slight incline) with the parking brake on (which does work). I jacked up one of the front wheels and the damn thing sarted rolling down the driveway on the floor jack. I know, I know, I should have had wheel chocks behind the tires, but it scared the hell out of me. I then engaged my CDL and it prevented it from rolling. Still haven't figured out why the truck rolled backwards. I would have thought the the e-brake would have kept if from moving since one of the rear wheels would have been connectd to the rear propshaft. |

My 97 does that too, when i have a wheel off the ground and wnat to look at it, it just rolls back till it gets traction (park and ebrake egaged)....i know all of them do that, but anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this??? |

The way to fix is is to lock the CD and to install lockers front and rear. Open diffs will just let the truck roll. Once you lock them, and try to make the truck roll while in park, you'll be learning about what Kyle eluded to. LOL |

This can also be an indication of a blowed CV joint. It was the first indication of failure on a Rangie I recently rebuilt the front end on. A review of some of the various sources found a reference on Atlantic British's site stating this as an indication of a blowed CV joint. |

FWIW.... The owner's manual says to lock the CDL before jacking up the vehicle when changing tires...

Locking CDL . . . I noticed that in the manual, it talks about the CDL light. The manual reads that if I notice the CDL light is lit after getting serviced, then I should notify the dealership in order for them to unlock it. Now . . .I have a D2 2001. I was under the impression that I could not lock the CD. Is this a mistake in the manual or does that apply to some earlier models of the D2? BW |

Supposedly the CDL nut disappeared from the transfer case in mid '01 and all '02's. I never noticed that in my manual. Perhaps that's in a DSI manual? How can they expect you to lock it if there are no factory provisions to do so? |

BW, I've been told the ability to manually lock the center diff was disabled at some point on the D2 because the traction control system takes care of this for you( it just goes nuts in sand apparently ). It may get manually locked during service ( reach up under vehicle ) and the guy might forget to unlock it. But I could be wrong Bruce. |
