I want to add a twelve volt plug to the cargo area of my Disco I, I remember a discusion about how there is a wire allready back there but a search of the archives turned up noting. Could someone either point me to this thread or tell me the location of this wire and what fuse it runs through. Also, what would be the best place to ground an additional plug in the cargo area. Thanks in advance. |

I added one a few weeks ago to the wheel well area just behind the rear seats in front of the side cargo/jump seat area. This area seemed like it was out of the way and easily accessable from the back seat for my kids or from in the cargo area. The area inside that panel is hollow, so it doesn't interfere with anything. I didn't know anything about it being pre-wired, so I just ran a tap off the fuse for the front outlet. I ran the ground to the back seat mount. It works great. I use them both at the same time with no problems. |

Carter, Try mounting your lighter socket just below the interior light on the right side. It's easy to cut the hole with either a proper hole saw, or just deft use of a sharp knife. You can power the socket from the individual "accessory power" wire that is part of the trailer wiring connections behind the bulb-access panel on the right side. The color code and location for that wire (as well as the fuse location) are in your owner's manual. Splice a seperate fuse (10 - 15 amp) between that wire and your socket and another wire into the ground connector on that side and you are set. Total time to do the whole job is 30 minutes. Good luck, Rich |

I think the wire that Carter is speaking of is green. Actually the color shoudn't matter. If you look back there, you will see a lone wire with an end cap on it. That's the one you want. |

Thanks guys, I checked out the owners manual Rich (when all else fails read the instructions). Incase anyone else is wondering there are two lone wires attached to the trailer plug, one is either green or brown and taps into the reversing light circuit and the other is purple and recieves constant battery power (the one you need to use to run a 12v plug). I had actually looked at the manual before but didn't see this so thanks for the heads up. Hopefully I will get around to wiring the plug this weekend. Thanks for your help. |

What are you planning on running from this additional 12volt plug? I purchased a 600 watt power inverter, wired it to my auxiliary battery and I can power AC appliances. It's very handy but it depends on your use. |
