Is it possible to replace the outer pinion bearing without removing the entire 3rd member from the vehicle? What steps would be required?

Thank you for any help.

Yup , but its a litle tricky. remove that end of the drive shaft and set it aside. Remove the drive flange and the seal. The bearing cone will fall right out but you are going to have to use a puller to get the race out. Once the race is out you will have to knock a new one in and then re shim the preload... You will need to get some preload shims . I think Dana 60 shims will work so you should be able to get them at any drive line shop...

Kyle,

Thanks for the prompt reply. When reseting the preload, how can you be sure it is correct? Isn't the preload set without the ring gear in place?

Yeah it should be done with the carrier out of it but you can shake it around and get a feel for how tight it is.. You dont want it real tight..... And it should be sloppy obviously..
