This may be a stupid question, but one I would like an answer to.

Can anyone tell me if the insulation under the bonnet/hood is really necessary? Mine is rotting and falling apart in places. If its only use is as acoustic insulation then I'm thinking of just doing away with it rather than replacing it. If it has some other use, such as a fire blanket or heat barrier, then I should probably keep it.

Let me know your opinions.

Do you think with out the insulation it will harm the paint from it getting to hot.

Doesn't DYNOMAT make custom underhood, stick on applications that are silver and reduce heat and noise???

The stock hood pad is mainly for sound deadining and heat asorbtion. Reflecting heat back to the engine might not be a wise idea. I never had the engine heat harm my paint

awww i see Dee, it works like a heat sink, creating a low temperature area above the engine so that heat (which we all knows travel from hotter zone to the colder zone, and the greater the difference between the the two zones the faster the enegry, uh, i mean heat will travel) so the removal of the insulation in some strange way may retard the engines ability to stay cool(er) because the heat sink is now gone. so removing the insulation may not make your engine run hot or effect horsepower but in the greater design the overall effectiveness of the cooling systems will be reduced. interesting thought ;0)

damn what will those engineers think of next!

Mike,
British Pac has it for 59.00
AB has it for the same. Shipping should be around 10 to 15

I couldn't leave Mr. Watson's comment unattended. That was elementary indeed. I fear it was ignored, though, tis a shame...:)

Cheers,

Kennith
