Hi All,

I am planning to install running boards on my 97 Disco I. I recall on Disco I LSE models that the front mudflap seems to be attached to a rubber boot that slides over the front of the running board. On some other Disco I's with running boards I've seen, the front mudflap (without the attached rubber boot) is at the very front of the running board just about in-line with the wheel well. On Disco I's that came without running boards (like mine) the front mudflap is about 6 inches further back from the wheel well riveted to a metal plate.

My question is how do I move the (my) front mudflap and attach it so that I can install the running board and re-attach the mudflap at the front of the running board (or at least attach the mudflap properly.) Maybe I am missing something here to understand it. I'll be picking up the running boards in a few days and want to make sure if there is something I'm overlooking. Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Dave

Running boards will limit your off road clearance and bend if you hit them. Are you sure you want them?

Hi JP,

Thanks JP although I'm aware of this. Although I don't often get to "off road" as much as I'd like these days ( I do though occasionaly try and find the time), I presumed when I do, I could always remove them. I know it would be a pain to do this regularly. In the intervening time, my "siginificant other" would like to have them. Thats why I asked the front mudfalp question.

Dave, don't go and balme it on your "significant other!!!" You just want your truck to look pretty so you can out-do the other soccer chix and look the best when YOU crawl into the mall parking lot. No biggie, even I thought of adding on some cool looking running boards, but my balls got all swollen and my manhood kicked in.

REMOVING the boards whenever you go offroading? HUH?? So obviously you RARELY go offroad!!! VERY obviously.

Just put the boards on and save us a spot at the next PTA meeting.

I don't think Dave asked for insight into the meaning of his life...

Dave, your best bet might be to ask some questions at the dealer if no one here knows...you can always just remove the front mudflaps, too.

I had to remove running boards on mine, so I can provide insight. You have to trim the flaps to fit the running boards on a D1. There is no alternate location for mudflap mounting. On the D2 the design is more intergrated. You can just leave them where they are and cut out the top inside corner to provide the clearance.

Hi Blue and Scott,

I truly appreciat all your feedback. Well then "trim the mudflap" it is! I guess just how much to trim will be pretty obvious once the running boards are placed into position. Interestingly (besides the D2), I thought I saw a DI LSE model that had the front mudflap intergrated with the front of the running board via a rubber boot that slid over the running board...possibly like a D2 does (I believe). Thanks again!

Dave
