I'm having difficulty removing the radio in a 97 Discovery. Can't seem to get the clips to release using the normal "DIN" type removal tool. I've noticed that the tool doesn't seem to go in as far as other DIN radios I've removed. We are not the origional owner and the dealer has provided me with the "code" for the radio but we have not been able to reset it. I want to pull the radio to see if there is any information on it that would help in having someone determine if the radio has been changed out at some point. Thanks for the help !!! |

I believe the radio is held in by 4 small metric allen headed bolts - cannot remember the size off hand. Unscrew all 4 (they don't come out) and pull the head unit. Someone else may clarify a bit more. Bill |

Either 4 or 2, but yes, small square-drive screws. It's easiest to stick a small (and I mean small) flathead screwdriver diagonally across the square slot and turn them that way. |

There are 2 tiny allen head screws you have to remove. If you go to your local home depot, you can get a 'ring' of 10 or so allen keys for under 1 dollar. Either the smallest or the next size up is the right one. As Jon said above, if you've got a tiny jewlers flathead screwdriver (like for fixing glasses), that will work too. -Tommy |

Thanks for the tips. Sounds like I should be able to take care of it. I saw no reference to screws in the LR Service Manual..... |

your speakers each have individual amps and when replacing a new cd player you'll have to re direct your wires directly into the speakers to get the best sound and with a new setup you won't be able to use your rear speakers unless you run wires to them or a new amp because of the internal amp thing |
