I went to the Bilstein web site and searched for shocks for my 96 Discovery. They came up with the following:
B46-0243 Front
BE5-2279 Rear

Autozone was listed as a supplier, so I went and ordered a set (took 3 hrs for delivery to store from warehouse). They had the B46-0243 for the front, but they had a different P/n for the rears, B46-0253. I called Bilstein and they confirmed the BE5-2779 number as correct, but did not tell me the difference between it and the other number. They recommended using the 2997 shocks. Oh and by the way, the Be5-2779's are backordered from the factory until July.

Does anybody have direct experience with either or both of these part numbers and do you know the difference? Can I use the 0253's in my D1 and at what trade off if any to the 2779's?

Thanks...
Arthur

Thanks anyway John, I've already installed new ones on the front.

Ho... what part number do you have? are they new or used, and do you know the answer to my question?

the B46-0253 is 10mm longer then the 2779's other then that they are valved and compressed to the same level

Thanks muskyman... so what if any is the downside of using the 0243's vs the 2779's in my 96 Disco? Is the total travel of the shock the same or is it also longer or shorter by 10mm?

thats bilsteins total length measure so yes you will get a whole 10mm more travel I guess.

They are a nice Yellow color...maybe thats where they get the "HO" from in the nomenclature.
