I have a 98 disco that I just put a rebuilt 4.0 in shortly afler that my ac compressor whent bad (it gives that squealing noise).
Now when I first start it up the tach looks like it sticks and there is very little power. If I try to give it gas it squeals. This last for about 2 minutes then all these things go away and it runs like normal. If anyone here has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks Ken

"when I first start it up", start what up? the truck or the a/c? if it is the a/c then based upon what you are saying the a/c compressor is locking up, causing the drive belt to stall. this causes the altenator to stop thus giving you a false tach reading, the tach pickup is on the altenator. this could also explain the squealing. this is the belt slipping on the pulleys, getting hot and complaining about it. well this is my guess.
