Hey All

can 255-65-16's be put on a 95 D1 with no modifications or problems? i currently have 235-70-16. according to the wheel & tire section, it says that they are the same height as stock but it doesnt tell me if i have to modify my truck to make them fit.

Ken,

I mounted 255-65 Michelin Synchrones on my stock 16x7 rims (99 D1). They're a little wide for those wheels, bulging out a little, and would probably be better on 16x8 wheels. It's _just_ within the "acceptable" limit.

Drive-wise, they seem to provide better lateral grip. You might expect them to have slightly worse straight-line stability. But that's a typical D1 complaint, and could just as easily be caused by the steering box.

Summary: I like them!

Rob,

thanks for the reply! i guess my #1 question is that you didnt need to trim sheet metal or change suspension components for them to work right?

Anon,

you said "245-75"... is that supposed to mean... that is the tire size point of "no return" AKA: when you move to 245-75 you have to start cutting away at your disco?

Anon,

if thats so... then 255-65 sound bigger then 245-75 right? so if i got those id need to cut my fender wells?

or are 255-65 okay...

Ken,

I can't tell you about the need to trim, because I already had medium duty OME suspension and trimmed fenders when I put those tires on!

Do you own your truck? Trimming is barely noticeable anyway. Just take the sawzall and a metal blade and carefully make the cut. You really can hardly tell.

There's only one way to tell if you need trimming, though....

This has been hashed and re-hashed, but I personally wouldn't want 245-75 tires for everyday use. They're much too spongy and the height cuts down on power too much for my taste.

Does anyone know the width of the stock "castor" wheels. i checked Michelin site and they say the "acceptable rim widths" for a 255/65/16 tire is 7"-9"

are the castors that wide?
