I poured over the workshop manual for my 96 Disco and cannot find anything about replacing the power antenna for the radio. I'm hoping I don't need to remove the fender, but will if I have to. Does anyone have any insight or a page number in the workshop manual where this info can be found? As usual, Thanks! |

I think I recall that you have to remove the inside fender liner. Remove RF wheel to do. You'll need to get more of those plastic 'rivets' or screws that hold the liner in...prolly from dealer. |

No manual page, just take off the wheel, climb under and poke/pull out the inner fender retainer clips (center pops out (it looks like a panel retainer), then the grommet can be removed (I don't know what you do about wallace though!). Once youve removed then you can flex the inner fender away from the body and snake your hand up to fiddle with the bottom of the antenna. Before you pull the antenna lead out, make sure to tie a string or wire to it to make pulling in the new one a bunch easier. If you are replacing with a Rover part then you can ignore the next bit. If not, remove the two cone-ish shaped grommets (its easy to get them off, just cut off the lead plug) and fit them (in the same order!) on the new antenna lead. If you use some vaseline and persuasion you probably can get it over the new plug (voice of experience here, don't try to pull the new wire through by grabbing the center of the antenna lead, it'll pull off). What worked best for me was to make a slice along the length of the "cone" , it pulls over the plug a little easier, and doesn't seem to compromise the sealing ability. Finally, after you've got the lead pulled back into the truck, from inside the fender, push the grommet 'til it seals, from inside the truck, try to pull the "cone" of that grommet until it seals. Now button it all up and you're done. carl. |

Alternative to Carl: If you have a tv coax crimper, you can simply cut the cable on the new antenna and the old one, crimp on a type "f" connector to each and connect them to each other with a double female connector. I secured mine with electrical watertight tape covered with two wraps of pvc tape. As you can guess, I really hate pulling cable or trying to squeeze my portly frame into the underside of the bleeping dash. Bill |
