Was at parts store yeaterday and picked up something called Disc Brake Quiet made by Permatex. Is there any reason why I shouldn't use this? Brakes is not my area of expertise, but I need to do something about the squealing. Otherwise I might start a brake squealing competition on my next Rover outing. Randall |

I smeared that on the back of my new pads last year and it seems to have done the trick--no squealing since. After coating the back of the pads, let it sit out for as long as possible. Some people don't like this type of product, but I've yet to hear a good reason not to use it. |

Yeah, there isn't really much argument disputing that the backing of the genuine pads is the best at stopping the harmonic squeal - but, having said that, if you use this stuff, let it cure after putting it on. I have painted the back of my pads the day before doing the brake job. heheh - maybe overkill, but for sure, if you just paint 'em and then mount 'em, you will not get good results. |

I've used this on the rear brake pads on my D1 with great success. The only thing that I can think of is to be sure to clean off all old gunk before compressing the pistons back into the calipers. I don't imagine that you would want that stuff gettting in the seals. Thanks, Mike B. |
