Hi, I am having a problem with the front wheel hub on a '96 Disco. It appears that grease/oil is slowly escaping from the cap on the wheel hub. Is it a matter of just tightening it or is there something else I should do? I don't know if I explained it well. Thanks in advance. Ray |

Well, I don't know. All I know is that there is oil/grease on the rim, and the tire place I just went to for tire work said it appeared to be comming from the cap. Assuming it does look like the picture you posted, what is needed to repair it. Thanks. Ray |

http://www.spanishtrailrovers.com/Tech/Maintain/Wheel_Bearing_Replacement/wheel_bearing_replacement.html this could be your problem. wheel bearing. buy the hub oil seal and repack the bearings. still on my "to do" list actually. haha. contact nathan at http://www.discountrovers.com for the parts. best prices on OEM stuff. but take the wheel off first and have a look. then go from there. |

Could be leaking from the swivel-hub on the other side of that wheel. Take a look on the other side of the wheel. The silvery dome at the end of the drive shaft is the swivel-hub. If its leaking oil drips onto the wheel rim and spreads around the wheel. Usually there is an oil patch on the inside of the wheel rim/floor each morning. If its leaking the seal is faulty or the swivel mating is rusty [likely to be rusty]. Best to drain the oil and fill with correct type of grease rather than renew with oil. New Landrovers are now filled with grease and not oil - also my 1996 Disco since I had same problem. |
