First of all i want to go with LR extra heavy duty springs...how high would that put me...i heard 1.6" for the heavy duty...i am getting an arb bumper and eventually it will have a winch...
how will this sit? if LR says its for a heavy duty bumper than it should set even...ie no sag on the front end...also shocks, will OME work well with this setup?
thanks,
jess
also wanted to know about D1 cd changer...do i have to go genuine?
tires...i was thinking 245/70 on my 16's...or what is teh jedi tall one, like 235/85...will either of these rub...lastly,
what is the best skid plate...as far as price and space covered...on the front end i mean...
i will have an arb..and i like how the safari gard skid plate on the front end protect a lot of the d1 underside...and would like similar integration. now i know ARB doesn't sell skids...so what are my options..thanks for everything in advance...feel free to e-mail me instead of posting...or both...copy and paste is an amazing lil' trick...thanks!

Jess,
I put heavy duty OME springs(model# 751) and shocks(model #N115) on the front because I have a winch. The lift is not more than 1.5 inches. I put medium heavy springs(#781) and N44 shocks on the rear. My 98 D1 sits evenly. I also put 245/75/16 BFG's on and they won't rub with the ARB bumper but you might have some rubbing on he front radius arms when you turn sharply.

Jess,

I put LR HD springs front and rear on an NAS D110 I used to own with ARB and Winch up front. I also added Bilstein shocks in standard length. Truck sat level at about 1.5" over stock.

I have RTE 2" HD springs front and rear on my D1 with 1" spring spacers in the rear with ARB and no winch. If I had to do it all over again I would go straight for the RTE 3".

Jess:
I think you are going about this backwards.

Buy your winch and bumper. Mount them, then weigh your truck front, back and total. Then, determine how much stuff you'll be carrying with you when you wheel. After you have this information, and only after can you accurately determine which springs are right for you. Without this, you are shooting in the dark and taking someone else's word for what you need, when in all likelihood, the place you are buying your LR springs from doesn't know either.

You will shortly be spending quite a bit of money for stuff you likely won't want to remove if you decide it isn't exactly what you wanted. Why not take the time and go into it with knowledge and understanding of your vehicle's suspension system?

I followed this plan to a great degree and got what I thought I wanted at the time. Now, I can't tell if I want to go with a stiffer spring or a much more supple spring. At least, I know what my vehicle weighs and how it responds to a given spring and what I can expect the next time around with different rate and height springs.

For what it is worth, I have the Rover Tym 280-330 progressive springs in the rear with Bilstein shocks and the Jedi 235/85/16 with minimal trimming. Now that I have the $ and an excuse for a big heavy bumper, it is time to buy and then run to the fertilizer shop down the street to weigh the truck again and then order new springs.

Good luck
Paul

well the front of the d1 will have arb bar...the winch will come when some more money does...i am not an expedition guy yet...so i won't have much of anything on the back of the truck..that is why i wanted to ask, especially since i know a lot of people out on the board have a disco 1 with an arb bar...second, what is the best skid plate to integrate with the arb??
thanks

Jess:
Whether you consider yourself to be an expedition guy or not, my comments still stand. With just my clothes, a cooler and some recovery equipment, I can make the back end of my truck squat down quite a bit.

Get the bumper, contact the manufacturer of the winch you currently wish to buy (someday) so you'll know how much it will weigh when you get one. Pack up your truck with what you would normally travel with (wife, kids, dog, mother-in-law, etc.) weigh the truck. You'll be surprised. Now, add the weight (mass) of the winch and call some spring sellers.

Also, if you aren't going to get a winch yet, buy yourself a hi-lift, but stay away from the chinese copies-they're junk. The sexy stuff like the bumpers will just get you into trouble and if you're alone, or don't have recovery equipment, you're in trouble. I won't make any comments about front recovery points as you've indicated you're buying a big-assed bumper which should have them. There are CB means of front recovery points, in spite of what some folks have to say about the appearance of mine!

You're on your own with skid plates. Many of us have just beefed up our suspensions and differentials to take the abuse. I have the Rockware cross tube and MJLee diff guards.
