All,

I think that I have finally fixed my check-engine light problem. After purchasing the OBD2 reader (www.obd-2.com) and finding out that I was having frequent misfires and individual misfires on Cylinder 6 I went ahead and replaced the plugs and the wires. The dealership that serviced the vehicle told me that they had been done about 25,000 miles prior. If they were telling the truth then original lucas wires and Champion plugs are totally terrible. Anyhow, I bought lifetime belden wires from my local NAPA guy and NGK plugs and fitted them (cut my hands to pieces, but it only took a little over an hour). In the process of removing the old wires, I discovered the root cause of the problem - wire on cylinder 4 was severed in the boot, and cylinder 6 wire was disintegrating fast.

Took extra special care to make sure the wires were routed in the little clips and followed the good advice here about dielectric grease. I didn't use any anti-seize as I plan on replacing the plugs every 6 months (only cost me about $12).

Anyhow, thanks for everyone's help and advice. ... hopefully it'll be a while before another problem surfaces. And if it does, at least I have the computer to diagnose it without a long trip to a LR dealer.

Regards,

Phillip
