Has anyone seen it? What are the benifits to a body lift? Any problems associated with body lifts? |

Yes, I have seen it.. Looks sweet. Pros and cons all depend on what else you are running on your truck.. Like suspension lift, bumpers, and such.. |

Depends on what you want it for. I think the website description does a good job in general. What's already on your truck? Brian |

It is all stock. I have a disco 1. I was looking at getting a new suspension and was just looking for some input on the body lift. What would you need a lift for? |

Would a body lift be as good as a suspension lift for a stock disco i know you wouldn't get the articulation and such but it would lift it up just like the suspension would wouldn't it? and it would be a less expensive way of doing it just for some extra ground clearance |

The body lift will allow you to fit larger tires without major cutting on a stock suspended Disco. It will also keep your rocker pannels (door sills), and quarter pannels 2 inches higher from the ground helping to avoid dents and scrapes. Plus, you get those two inches of lift with out having to worry about vibes like you would if you did the same size lift but, on the suspension.. Also, it keeps the center of gravity lower then the suspension lift as well. I'm sure that there are many more reasons that other can chime in with.. Of course I'm sure that some others will chime in with all the negative parts too.. This is something that I've been thinking about doing for a while now.. I'm still thinking about it cause 6 inches is a lot of lift.. I will most likely do it though.. |

I would really suggest going with a spring/shock upgrade for a stock truck. The stiffer springs will help handling with the added height. A bodylift would suit someone looking for very large tires and has maxed out suspension lift (3"-4" is a sane level). Then you could add a body lift. Springs and shocks, then spacers, then body lift, IMO. But you definitely could go with just a bodylift for clearance. Jeeps do it all the time. Brian |

You need to remember though that with a body lift you are only lifting the body.. Your frame, drivetrain, and every thing else except the body will not change.. It would be the new tires that you put on that would raise every thing a little higher for better ground clearence... |

Me too! I run RTE 2" HD (RR1 and RR4) springs and 235 85 R16s with no vibes. I'd like more lift, but with stock shafts and radius arms, that's pushing my luck. I may look into this body lift. What is the extent of the work to be done on the TC shift lever, the steering and the radiator? Anyone manage a good guess? Ron Ward |

Ron, you just screw in an adapter (2 inch longer bar) onto the transcase lever, no change for the steering wheel, and I think that you just need to drill a few holes for the radiator.. It's getting the bolts, and the old body mounts out that I believe is the hardest part. |

You will have to drop your radiator down two inches, with brackets. Possibly extend the steering, and extend the TC shift lever. Simple to do. Did it on every jeep I ever owned. |

I haven't done it so I could be wrong but, I believe that is pretty much all that is to it. Your rear bumper and front bumper will be 2 inches lower then the body though... I think that you can just re-drill the mounting holes for the front but, the rear bumper is a different story... You could always get some mounting tabs made for it.. |

Hank's got it. Just move the radiator back in front of the fan, extend the linkage on the T-case, and add a bit to the steering shaft at the box. The hard part is just what John has done for us: finding all the bolts in their correct sizes for the seatbelts, the spacers (that won't rust) and other frame-mounted things. For $185, his kit is one hell of a deal for what you get, IMO. Sure you could figure it out and do it yourself, but he's already done that and passed it on with little to no profit. I think he's testing the market now. Brian |

Bumpers aren't bad... You can see what it looks like without relocating the bumpers in the pics from "Wheel arches to fit 33" tires" thread. Check them out. I know JBS will change his personal bumpers, but you'll need to do something on your own for now. Ordering a custom bumper or fabbing some bracketry would certainly work perfectly. Brian |

I would not recommend a body lift on stock sprung Rovers as those springs are designed for exactly what they do. I would only recommend a body lift on after market springs which are beefier springs. |

John, What difference does it make if you butcher your ride to fit 238-85's or add some space between the body and the frame? Your not adding an abundance of weight with this lift. How is it going to hurt your oem setup? |

I havent tried these on stock sprung vehicles, but stock springs are minimally built to handle exactly what they carry and c of g height. I am only surmising that a stock spring would not be sufficient to handle a raised c of g comfortably...but I dont know that as I havent tried it..just a gut feeling. The Rangie pictured on the site has OME medium duty springs and it handled and felt great. Aftermarket springs are made with better rates and heavier wire to carry better loading. |

My question is just how much wider would you have to extend the width of the axles between tires so that you can compensate for a 6 inch lift? Would you need spacers and offset rims or just wider axles all together? |

The stock replacement springs I offer at 1" lift will support winch, sliders, bumpers and body lift as they have the rates built in them. The tools needed are simple as stated on the web site(jack stands, floor jack, wrenches and a good friend) with complete instructions included with the kit...we have done 5 lifts with 6 hrs labor each with primarily Drew and me as a helper. Of course our experience knocks off some time. |

Body lift is not hard, one inch is easy two is a bit harder. Front and rear bumper brackets need mods rear a bit harder, seat belt bolts will be ok with one inch two, will be too short. The body will need additional support were it sits on the rubber mats under seats and cargo area. T/case lever will drop a bit on one inch and will need exstention for two. Dont know about 5 speed as mine is auto. Steering colume will extend from u-joint so no probs there. Auto trans lines will bend up to cooler but two inch I would not push it. Radiater will drop a bit, need to re-drill clamps, also fan may hit fan cowl need too watch that. The lift makes it a lot easyer to clean under body you can see if any mud or sand left there. The truck seems quiter may be becouse the body is higher off the t/case and auto the big plus is you dont have to worry about dive line vibs. Cost, is cheap $160 for bolts and inch spacers the cost goes up a lot if a tech dose it. |

So lets sum up things. Pro's -body lifted two inches for clearance of tires -no vibes with body lift -less cutting -not hard to do Con's -front and rear bumpers are two inches lower than body I think the pro's out weight the con's. I would like to see some more pic's of body lifted disco's. Another great product made by John. |

Personnally, the body lift is tempting, but I do not think I'll go that way. Kent has had to make a 4.5" suspension lift, creating driveline problems to rectify, and the 2" body lift to install 35" tires. ECR and Rangie Spares say they can accomodate 35"s with a 2" suspension lift (no drivelines mod) with the flares. Now, I am not a 'CB', but I like to have things nice and simple...less things to eventually go wrong. Anyways the ONLY shortcomming of the Disco are the tiny wheel wells. The only 2 pros I see for the body lift are: 1. greater space between cab and chassis outriggers to easily install rear winch 2. more cooling for the whole drivetrain (3" body lift on '84 Wagoneer resulted in that) I'm going to take the flares+2" route, but I'm gonna be keeping a close eye on the bodylift route as well. AS I said, very tempting...but I'd prefer otherwise...goodluck though. Cheers |

Nadim , so the Jeepin meats get on there with the 2" lift ? Do you seriously think that because they "say so" , it will make the wheel house longer and deeper ? The tire still aint fitting even with the flares unless you get you some of those pretty long ass red bump stops to prevent up travel into the body. If you want to retain that nice uptravel you will have to ditch those back seats and get to hacking... Kyle |

Another pro would also be: if you did a 2" body lift, that would probably expose enough frame to build some bulletproof frame mounted rock sliders. I can only imagine how badass RT sliders would be if they were frame mounted. Any thoughts John? Greg |

Nadim, a 2" lift will alone will not fit 35's. about 2 years ago i test fit 35's w/ OME lift/Bilstiens and the only way that the 35's fit is if we lifted the rear of the disco with a hi-lift until the suspension was at full droop. sounds like the "flares" part means MAJOR hacking involved. Also the tires that i tried were 35x12.5 Yokohama Geolander MT's which i hear run small. Rangie spares might also mean that they can put 35's on a 3dr, which is unavailable in the US and would be alot easier. pics can bee seen here. http://www.discoweb.org/danno/ BTW, wouldn't it be better to run 4.7's instead of 4.11's if one were to go to 35's? |

>If your wondering how tall the truck is she's 5'8" Kent, your truck must be closer to 6'8" I like the look of the big Disco and I am sure a lot here are wondering how they can fit bigger tires, although I am wondering if all that bigness is more of a liability with the Disco. Sure, it might get further down the trail (without assistance) than an average lifted Disco, but at what expense? Weinstein, I know you love the Bogger Disco. How long before you create a Disco that can run with those big boys that Rex so admires |

well moe, I will indeed have 35s on the disco in a bit. This however will stay around more traditional lines. The disco will most certainly not have 8 inches of lift, and I can assure you that the tires will be no wider than 9.5 inches. Besides, I think we both know that I have know desire for rex's saliva to be on my feet, I prefer that he continues playing with the stick. |

"I have know desire for rex's saliva to be on my feet, I prefer that he continues playing with the stick" Ummm . . I was talking about my friend, Rex, not my dog, Chan. Staying with traditional lines and having 35s sounds like wishful thinking. I suppose when that day comes and whenever I venture out with you and Rex, my Disco will act as a support vehicle |

Interco is coming out with a 35/10.50/16. That would be a sweet tire for a disco. Should fit on our stock rims, I think. Might be narrow enough to work with the Discos that have 3" suspension with the the 2" body lift. (Very tempting, I might add...) |

I have about 4" of suspension lift. 35" tires will not fit even if I took the fender panels and rear doors off. I think it was mentioned already that the problem is with the wheel well. My 33" tires are a very close fit as it is. When 35" tires stuff they will hit the lower rear edge of the wheel well. John at RTE can probably verify that--hence his 2" body lift. Alan, you are right...4" lift...33's max... Kyle, you are right, no way the ECR project will fit 35's with 2" susp. lift unless you are ok with no axle tuck(Humvee action). 35's to clear wheel well with axle movement and tuck inside of doors takes 7" of lift. 6" will not tuck inside of doors. All this considering a 2" spaced wheel to clear the spring tower on axle tuck with 33x 11 1/2 and 35 x 12 1/2" tires. Skinnier tires may have more luck. |

Danno... I currently run the 4.7s even with the 32s...I have been dreaming about the 35s since I bought the Disco...but been taking it step by step to break things one by one, not all at the same time ("lease breakage") As for the hacking...I have no problem, but Kyle, It is a 4 door and a 5 seater (took the 2 rears off!), so the bench stays!...I have relocated the rear axle ~2cm (3/4") rearwards, and with the help of the flares, I should be able to clear the 35s. I will be creating custom front, rear and side bumpers bars, so the body lift is no problem there, but I do not life the idea...the low stealth look is what I like. with the OMe 2" lift, I have the 32" swampers...I am guessing with the flares I should be able to stuff the 35s, but as Kyle pointed out, bumpstops will be installed...I hope they will not limit it too much though. Anyways, I am currently waiting for a quote from Rangie Spares (thx Tom)...and from Simex...so will have a picture up when everything goes together... Nadim |

Kent, Nice looking rig. How does it do with wheel stuffs? Looks like the flex would have to be limited in order to prevent rubbing. I bet that you can't get into many parking garages. I figure you are at 7'4" plus to the roof rails. This is not based on your wife, but I know mine is at about 7' with DS2/2"/265-75's. Besides - I think your wife is wearing heels so 5'10" sounds better for scale. Curtis |

The truck has great articulation. Truck has a SG three link in front, and custom 40" heim jointed trailing arms in back. Upper A-arm lenghtened 1". 12" Fox shocks all around. I do rub on the spring towers with the inside of the tire. I am working on that problem know. Will either go with wheel spacers or have Stockton Wheel change the wheel spacing and add bead locks. |
