Well, yesterday when I got home there was a UPS box in the drive. Inside were a Detroit and True Trac that will go into my DSII.

These units are less than 1 year old and came out of a D-90. I spoke w/ Bill @ GBR and he confirmed that they will fit.

The units still have the bearings pressed on them. These bearings are the same age as the diffs. Will these bearings fit my DSII, or will they need to be replaced?

Also, while I have the axles apart, what other service is recommended? My truck has 43K miles on it. As I understand it, the wheel bearings are sealed for life. Should they be replaced now as well?

hey greg, Not sure on the bearings. One way to tell is just to use the old race and see if it fits (well duh) if it does pop off the old race and insert the one that came with the D90 diffs and away you go.

If it ain't broke . . . you don't want to mess with those rear hubs. They are a known issue so to speak and replacements are $$$$

If its like a DI and you can pull the whole assembly in one piece off the front thats what I would do, ditto for the rear. disassemble as little as possible is my theory.

Man I just reread that and I was unclear.

Unbolt where the axle meet the housing. on a DI there are 7 12 bolt bolts. I am sure it is similar on your truck. That way you do not have to mess with taking off rotors hubs etc. (if you need new rotors then go the other way)

Thanks Ron. I spoke with Bill @ GBR and he informed me that the bearings and races are the same so they can stay. Bill echoed the same sentiments. Don't mess with what's not hurt. There's not much to do in there anyway until something fails since the wheel bearings are in fact "sealed for life".

Darryl, I've been carrying a copy of that around for a couple of months now. Just finished reading it again prior to seeing your post. Overall, how long did the install take?

Took about 4 hours for each diff.
Not bad at all, I did it in a 3 night span, I bought the lockers from E.E. with the bearings pressed on since I have no press. Going to Tellico with some Toyota buddies Lucky June 13th for the weekend....hope I leave Harrah's with at least enuff to make it home ;-)
