I just read Brian Jackson's t-case bearing write-up. Very good! I do have one question for Brian: I assume you relplaced the bearings because you had too much side to side slop in the front output shaft. Did you have vibes also because of it? Did new bearings get rid of the vibes? Okay...two questions.

Thanks,
Alan

Alan I am not confident on the bearing being the issue. Since its a radial ball bearing if its not tight on the other end it will still slop around. I did both front and rear and still had the same annoying vibe I always had. I got a new TCase sitting at the house thats a 98 model year and its tight. No slop at all...

Alan,

I didn't have any vibes from the T-case bearing slop. There was no noticeable play in the output shaft. I replaced it because I have had a horribly unbalanced GBR shaft on the front for awhile now that had worn out the bearing. It wasn't broken, I could just hear the friction.

The vibes I had were from the driveshaft, and that ruined the bearing. The vibes in the rear ruined the oil seal only. Got a couple of Tom Wood's shafts and I'll let you know whether she's a smooth operator now. Just too damp outside today and I've got a head cold, so I really don't feel like swapping shafts today :)

HTH,
Brian

Kyle, I agree. My t-case is relatively new but has developed some vibes (somewhere) recently. The front was pretty tight when I put it in, but has loosened up since. I oftened wondered why a bearing couldn't have been used at the "other end" for both front and back to give the output shafts some more support.

Thanks, Brian. You sound like what I went through with shafts. I settled on the double cardan shaft and flange from a DII. I hate that stupid adapter, but some don't seem to have problems with it. My GBR shafts were out of balance and out of round. Bill with his great customer service made it right, but the rear from a different source still gave me trouble....ended up with the factory shaft back on (with sharp u-joint angles). Whatever works....

Alan,

I really hope my shaft troubles are over. Tom Wood told me to use the 180 day warranty/exchange period as a "challenge". I think he's pretty confident they'll be the sh!t. I sure hope so.

Brian,

You will be happy with your new woodies, no doubt.

Brian, did you ever take your GBR shafts in and have them re-balanced? Or was that just useless?
