I've got a new twist on an old problem. Instaed of the door handle not opening the door, my right rear door no longer latches! So, when I close it, it opens right back up. Of course, this is not a good thing around DC. Currently, I have a super-ghetto rope holding it closed so I could drive to work and not have it flop open around turns. I'm going to pull the trim panel and take a look tonight, but any clue as to what I should look for specifically? Darn GM latch mechanism... Thanks in advance. Tate |

Tate, I have this problem, too. I use a screwdriver to move the handle that you squeeze back out and then the door closes and latches fine. To fix, you have to take off the back panel and then clean, lube everything. Haven't got to it yet. Tom |

Tate Check the strike bolt that the latch attaches to. Right after I bought my 98, the back door wouldn't shut. I would shut it but it would bounce back open. I found the bolt to be a little loose and since it is adjustable, the latch pushed it back just enough so that it couldn't catch. I just pulled it back and tightened it and the door shut fine. Tom, this is for the RIGHT rear door, not the REAR rear door. But thanks for the input. For the rear, a little lube sprayed on the latch from the outside seems to help when it happens to me. Mike, I'll check the striker bolt. That sounds like possibility. Thanks for the input, guys. |

Its the same GM door mechanism its stamped on there. Just take a screw driver and if you see the latch closed then it needs to be reset. Take the screw driver and pop it out. Hope this helps |
