I added more lift to my vehicle. My vehicle had some Bridgestone Dueler All Terrians on but they were kind of too small. I got some BFGoodrich All Terrians for a good price and that is why I got it. I preferred BFG Mud Terrians but they did not have it. Do they perform well off road? And yes, I drive off road most of the time and not on the pavement.

Yes. I am into my 11th set of BFG A/T T/As. Many will tell you they are junk, but I had a pair that lasted 110K miles and had tread when I got rid of them.

Aired down, they are great.

I am on my second set as well. They last a long time and are great off road. The only trouble I have with them is mud. They become kind of slick, so driver skill really comes into play.
I had a set mud terrains on my Toyota and loved them, too. MUCH better in mud, but that's about it. Not as good on rocks or wet hard stuff.

I'm on my second set of used ATs and love them. Strong sidewalls (lots of rocks here in the New England area). Like Greg said they aren't very good in mud.

by your last comment here you should allready have answered this for yourself.

in there time the BFG AT won races all over the planet. for about 15 to 20 years they where the best light truck snow tire right outa the wrapper.

Are there better AT's out there today? yes

but with the never wears out reputation of the AT they are still a good value

If you plan on doing any real mud...with a name like Warn...get a winch.

have fun

I used to run BF AT's bud I actually had bad experiences with them. For me they didn't run good in snow or heavy rain. JMHO but light rain, pavement, and road driving was pretty good. Mud seemed a bit to much for them. I ended up getting the Yokohama Geolanders AT+II to replace them and are very happy with them compared to my BF's. I have heard of others really liking them. Just didn't have to good of a experience with them.

jim

thats because you are comparing them to new state of the art design and build modern tires

the BFG AT is anciant history....thats why I said in there day

if you had the trash sears road handler M&S style tires that the BFG AT was replacing when it first came out 25 or so years ago youd think they where awsome because back then they were.

when I put my first set on a truck they made it feel unstoppable compared to what was around at the time.

I have long since moved on from the dual purpose tires, give me radical mud tires offroad and extra siped street tires on. thank you

muskyman,
I was not ripping on the tire I am just giving my opion and my experience in them. That is why I explicitly put in my comments "For me". Anyway not worries they are good tires I never said they were not it was just my opinion on having them on my disco. They did last me a while 50k miles which I believe was pretty good. I am glad you have had good experiences with them. "I WAS NOT TRASHING THE BFGoodrich AT's If you reread my comments you will see I put in "my experience with them vs what I have heard for the not liking of the tires." You are more than welcome to express your opinion on liking them. I have no problem with that.

WARN -

what type of terrain do you see, when you are "mostly offroad"? I think the general concensus is that the BFG AT or the newer AT/KO does not handle snow and mud (hey - it IS an all-terrain tread), but they have performed well (and lasted pretty damned long) for me when I drove mostly dry sand, dirt, and rock.. And I loved the idea that I could air-up and drive away from the trailhead with a tire that would stay balanced on the freeway at 75mph.

Musky

So what tires would you recommend as a good AT tire?

the geolander AT are good but wear really fast

if I was really gonna go AT I would get the 235 85 16 Goodyear ATS. it is a great tire that I have had on other trucks . its quiet, works well in most terain(even light mud) and at about 120 a tire it is in the middle of the pack price wise

it is a computer designed tire with modern sidewall construction.

they also seam to work well with anti-lock systems, some tread paterns work better then others when it comes to lock up characteristics.

but as Jim would say just my opinion

my bfg mt have well over 50000 on them a friend of mine hadnt been wheeling with in over 2 years thought that i had a new set. i have had this set for over 7 years and he thought that they were new. they are a little noisy but off road i run about 15 psi and they work perfect. and i drive home on that pressure (i shouldnt) and i have never had any problems with them in any situation from rocks ,mud snow roads ext. and i drive to work 20 miles worth every day.

BFG AT tires are awesome! I travel to mine sites out in the west for a living. Mostly in a Ford f150. I used to get flats regularly (with the stock Goodyear spec tires). Then I tried what they use on the commercial mine owned trucks - the Goodyear Ironhorse truck radial which ended the flats but really stunk in the snow.

I tried the BFG AT's and they actually did very well, better than anything else and a great value. They are just plain tough as nails. The only downside is that they are heavy and they tend to grab any paving joints from lane to lane.

I have to admit that the Michelin XPC's are a fairly good value for the Land Rover. I finally changed the originals after 55k miles, only because they were cupping on the edges. I have never had a flat with them and they feel pretty solid going fast on gravel mine roads.

Since Michelin has gone to the new Synchrone, the XPC's can be found for a great price if you shop around. I noticed the originals were made in France, and my new ones were made in Spain and seem to have an added rib on the sidewall.

But if I had to cross the desert with no spare tire or jack.... I'd pick the BFGs for sure!!

Eric
