I installed RTE HD 2" springs on my Disc1 in January. I have 10mm spacers in the front and 1" aluminum spacers in the rear. ARB, NO WINCH, Adventure Roof Rack and assorted lights. Even with the 1" spacers in the back I sit at roughly 22" from mid hub to fender in the back and 22" in the front (passenger side is more like 21.75"). Seems like I should have 3/4 or 2/3 of an inch more lift in the rear. Anybody have experiences like this. RTE stuff is great and I understand his newest (2002) spring sets are much less likely to sag. BTW, no vibrations so far so I may plug an extra 10mm spacer on top of each rear spring and see what that does. Is there a point at which adding spring height stops adding rear height due to the A-arm ball joint over the rear axle? Sorry long post Ron Ward |

Ron , did you measure what you had when the lift was first installed ? If you have only lost 3/4" from how high they were the day they were installed I wouldnt call that bad.... All springs settle in some.. Kyle |

Kyle: I am amazed at the folks I speak with who don't do before and after measurements. Most of them tell me they aren't concerned about the absolutes, but the lift itself... Yes, I measured the height of MY truck before and after, although using a less common means, I measured the height of the trailer hitch. Worked for me. Paul |

Kyle, Is 3/4" sagging really normal? I've removed 10mm spacers and added 1" spacers to the rear to net about 2/3" added height to the date of install measurement of 22.5". I added the 1" spacers in April. The rear sits even with or just slightly higher than the front now. Seems odd though since I have 2" lift springs on the front and the equivalent of 3" lift springs on the back. Check out the the profile shots in my gallery. They were taken as before and after the 1" spring spacers were added (and 10mm removed) Ron |

Paul, Good point, the date of installation (2" HD RTE springs plus 10mm spacers) was: FD 22" FP 21.75" RD 22.5" FP 22.5" The math adds up, but it seems like the 1" aluminum spacers had no effect, which seems impossible unless the springs sagged simultaneous to the installation of the spacers, OR there is some mechanical limit (rear ball joint on top of axle?) to the amount of lift you can achieve. Otherwise it appears the springs have sagged or are sagging at least 1" from new. Ron Ward |

Ron, stock disco measurement from center of wheel to fender lip is 18"(average). So a 2" lift plus 1" spacer would put a theretical 2" lift at 21" hub center to fender lip. You currently have a 4" lift at 22". With the A-arm you will find you are laying the A-arm on the exhaust line when dropping the axle on articulation or axle drop. Lots of trucks are now running 5" susp. lifts with no A arm concerns. That is about max lift for the swivel rotation on the A arm ball to still work properly. |

JBS? Sorry to hear about your family's recent loss. Hope all is well and thanks for the info. I'll get a winch and shut up now... Ron Ward |

What do you do to resolve the issue of the A-arm hitting the exhaust pipe during wheel drop? When I just put on some spacers in the rear, I noticed when the axle was dropped the A-arm hit the tailpipe and wouldn't extend more. So what do you do? |

Ron, I had the same concern on my DII. I measured 19 inches stock all the way around. Put on RTE 2" HD springs and got a consistent 22" measurement. After a few weeks, I measured and found all measurements to be less. I paniced and wrote a similar post. I now have an even 21" lift on all four corners. The springs must have just settled in as mentioned by Kyle. I haven't measured again in a month or so, and will check them this evening for another comparison, but basically I ended up with roughly 2". I have a front ARB, but no winch at this point. With my springs, I have been able to install 235/86/16 GY MTR's with no trimming. I have not really flexed the truck much yet due to brake line concerns, but am happy with the springs as they seem to settle. The ride improved after a few months too. For what it's worth. Greg |

Cameron, think of that as maybe a good thing. I dont know for a fact but I believe if the axle dropped more than what the exhaust line allows with the taller lifts, we may be out of the operating range of the swivel ball geometry range on the a arm link and be in a position of putting greater stresses on the swivel ball to a point of breaking them. Some of the big flex guys(jeeps and D-90 competition crawlers) limit the movement by using limiting straps center of the axles for several reasons. Too much drop at the pivot point center of a 3 link axle can be a negative for geometry and C of G issues. |

Who was it that was selling the 1 inch spacers? After reading this tread and measuring I found that I sit 1 inch lower in rear than I did when I had my SLS system , but I could vary that very easy with sensor. I now have 3 inch rte springs all around. I liked the looks of my DII with the distant between tire and bottom of plastic flare was the same front and back. Darryl |

Several makes of the spring spacers. Rockware makes them (never seen them, just read about them in their catalog) and RTE as well. I have the RTE spacers and am very happy with them. Ron Ward |

Why can't one just measure a piece of 1 inch square tube or solid 1 inch aluminum block, drill,to span the perch under the spring pad? |

Ron Ward, You sound like you need a winch for the front and need to remove that heavy roof rack from the back. I might have an answer to your problems. You know Michelle would rather have an old heavy roof rack than that great winch. Scott |

Greg, Do you have a bumper or Winch with your Disco II and 2" RTE HD springs? I'm thinking of getting them but I have an ARB bumper and X9 winch up front. My goal is to end up with a real 2" minimum lift but less than 3". I'm looking for real world expereince here. |

Mr. Bowden, Well, I am going to get a winch. I want the 9500 with the remote mount solenoid so it will fit without any messing around with the ARB (I hope). And I'm keeping the rack. You make an interesting proposition, but one I cannot accept. RW |

Darryl, I made my alum spacers by ordering the length I needed and drilling the hole. Worked great. (and inexpensive). link\ http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=1105&step=4 |

Ron, You should only have to redrill the mounting bolt holes for the 9500 to fit. The motor is longer than the 9000, which will offset the winch about 1" or so. The fairlead will then be off center of the spool but as long as you watch the cable when winding you shouldn't have a problem. Thats all I did when I had the ARB. Scott Didn't expect you to go for the winch / rack thing anyway |

Al, I have an arb on the front, but no winch yet. I'm not sure what effect the winch will cause but I anticipate the front will go down a little when added. At that point, I will probably consider shims or spacers. |

Scott, So the Warn 9000 fits without any trouble and the 9500 requires a little drill work? Thanks Ron Ward |

Ron, Yes Both winches are the same size bolt pattern just with the longer motor you have to offset the mounting holes a little bit. Not too hard Scott |
