I recently learned about the diagnostic display under the seat of my Disco. It didn't show any trouble codes. Will trouble codes automatically show or do I need to push a button or something to cause it to display? |

I believe they will only show after an engine stall or start failure. I think the check engine light should be on as well. You can stall your engine yourself to see if your ECU is working or not, sometimes the lights burn out. I checked mine by pulling the mass flow meter connection, the engine stalled within 10 seconds and the code for the mfm showed up on the ECU. You'll have to reset the check engine light after you stall it (pull the sticker off the top of the ECU an push a paper clip into the hole on top of the ECU). here's some info on the fault codes http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~lloyd/tildeLand-Rover/Elec/ErrorCodes.html |

This is not necessarily true. Fault codes will register when a fault occurs. There does not need to be any type of stalling to occur, though the check engine light will come on if there is a fault. If, say, an O2 sensor is bad, that will read on the display without anything seemingly going on with the truck. And with 94/95 Discos, the procedure to clear and reset the ECU is this: (taken from one of Brian Jackson's posts) Clearing the display: Switch ignition on. Disconnect serial link mating plug, wait 5 seconds, then reconnect. Switch ignition off, wait for main relay to drop out. Switch ignition on. The display should now be reset. If there are other faults, the next one will be displayed. Otherwise the display will be black If there is more than one fault repeat steps 1 to 4, to clear each fault until the display is blank. The procedure in the post above is for reseting the Red Service Engine light for emissions check ups (this procedure is for the orange check engine light and underseat readout). The link to the codes above are correct though. Robbie |
