on the hollister hills pics the gold rover has 2 d rings on the front they look like they are in the holes that are on the brush bar is that a good idea? what are some thoughts on that because it looks like an easy recovery point |

That's my Disco. It's a recovery point, bottom line. It's not a good recovery point, and I wouldn't trust it for any more than getting gently pulled out of a situation. For anything that requires yanking I would try to find something else. That being said, it worked well the one time I needed to be pulled out. The rest of the time I defer to common sense and keep myself and my Disco out of trouble by avoiding trailes that are simply beyond the capabilities of my truck in its current configuration. |

And thanks for reminding me that I need to take those off! |

Well, they held up well under a winch situation at Cow Mountain. You can see pics of how I set up my tos-strap here I wouldn't hang it from a helo (LOL) but I trust it in non-yanking situations. I suspect with any good yanking the brush bar would pivot up into my hood, as the brush bar mounting points are lower than the frame horns. |

I added a second tow hook to my disco (same as the original tow hook that comes with the Disco). These hooks are held onto the frame by 5/8" bolts. Doesn anyone know if these hooks are strong enough to be used for a recovery point? I was also trying to add a couple of D-Rings to use the tow strap with it. I was thinking of buying the ones with 5/8" ones -- overkill? 1/2" good enough? BTW, this is a '96 Disco. |
