Hi there,

I have heard about McNamara air locker and I am curious to have some user feedback about these ?

Does someone here have some Mc Namara fitted, or know someone who has ?

Are they reliable ?

Do they come complete for DIY fitting ?

How do they compare to ARB for example ?

Any input welcome.

I understand that the air actuated mecanism is outside the carrier, therefore no need to use o rings to send air inside the rotating carrier, and the locking mecanism is said to be bigger ...

I know a couple of people running Macs. They all cited greater reliability than ARB as a reason for purchase, along with the aweome choices of gearing and the strength.

I've never heard anyone say a bad word about them, but that doesn't mean they are perfect. If you want real answers, call up Bill Davis at Great Basin who sells them and has installed them, or join the D90 list and ask some of those who have bought/installed them like Cliff Durrett from Tampa.

They are a PITA to deal with. I was trying to buy the 35 spline axle kit for my salisbury and they would not tell me when I could have it.

I think Cliff and Doug ended up waiting over a year for their sets, and doug's came with the wrong gears!

Perrone, Ron,

thank you very much for your answers.

So seems to be good units but bad customer service ?

As Australia is "next door" for me, well the closest flight available from here, maybe next time I go there I should just go to their shop :-)

Please excuse my ignorance... but where is the D90 list ? :-)

Best regards.

I have a 24 spline vacuum hypoid diff that i just installed in my RR . The install was so easy , just take out old diff + replace with new basically . They had forgot to include the wiring diagram for the switch , I e-mailed them and they returned my call within 24hr.s and faxed me a copy right away . Maybe for special orders they are hard to deal with , but my experience is the complete opposite . I won't hesitate to throw some more cash their way ( if I ever get anymore}

P.S. the only hassle was that I had to send an international bank check as they didn't accept credit cards .
p.p.s. my diff came completely assembled and included axles .

Ron,

Are you sure about Cliff's experience? He and I have spoken numerous times about this issue and the only wait time he has was from Great Basin trying to get them for him. He decided to skip the process and go straight through McNamara and he seems very pleased with that choice. Or at least he was last month when we discussed his lockers.

One more question,

you seem there to be talking about the vacuum operated locker complete in their hypoid conversion for rover axle.

Any experience on their AIR locker as well ?

I understand also they provide axles along with the stuff... I already have MAXIDRIVE HD axles... will these be compatible with their lockers ?

Best regards.

You are correct sir. I don't have experience with their air locker , but the axles are compatable with maxi's and should also be with ashcrofts or any oe or replacement axle with the same spline count .
