Searched the archives and found something close...but, when cold *sometimes*, I can shift to any gear (R,D,3,2,1), push the gas, and nothing happens except the engine revs, the truck just sits there. Sometimes, I'll start up, go to R, sit there for 30 seconds with my foot on the brake, then I can feel that little jerk that you feel when you know it's "engaged".

Fluid level is fine, filter and fluid just changed about 8K ago.

It was noted in another post that this might be a governor problem. THis was then negated by another.

Any ideas? SHould I just change out the fluid/filter and see what happens?

Something is hindering filling of the clutch packs. This would lean towards a pressur issue which would point you in the direction of a blocked screen , low fluid , an internal leak. Take it into a trans shop that knows what the hell they are doing . They should be able to square it away in pretty short order. It could also very well be an acumulator or servo that isnt holding pressure...

Thanks Kyle. This is fun. Called a local Rover mechanic (he's very good IMO), he says most likely bad seal(s) causing pressure loss and since I'm still under warranty, go to dealer, get a replacement.

Called dealer, service mgr says this is normal behavior for a D2 that may sit a day or two (or more), fluid is just backing out (?) and it may take a minute or so to get the fluid back where it belongs - keep on truckin'.

Mike, I've let my DSII sit for several days before and have NEVER experienced this. I'd have to question the service manager as to why he beleives sitting a few days would cause this.

Didnt know you were still under warranty . Um , ask the service manager what he knows about the trans and what is and is not normal. Its just an auto trans like any other and that is NOT "Normal"

I has the same issues. Seems like the torque converter bleeds dry. Since I only drive the truck on weekends, I have to start it let run for 15-30sec then engange the gears, or slippage will occur.

Carl:
Have you talked to a the dealer about yours? Did you get a similar answer to the one I got? Sounds like so much BS to me, seems they don't want to touch it unless it's catastrophic.

Hmmmm....haven't tried any lucas yet...

Well I did once and the tech said it was normal... But then I thought about it today after your post, and I think it started to happen after they replaced a leaking seal on the transmission, so I'm bringing the truck back to have the fluid level checked. Don't know why the DSII doesn't have a dipstick like ever other truck/car...???

They also mentioned that they have to check the trans fluid level with a cold transmission to due the expansion rate of the trans fluid when it heats up.... I'm puzzled.

I'll keep you posted on what happens.

The saga continues...did a little trail run this weekend, no slippage all weekend, cold or warm, everything normal. Then, on the way home (Blue Ridge Pkwy, BTW, just a gorgeous day), Service Engine Light comes on, P0734 (third time this week), invalid 4th gear ratio, just a minor warning according to the manual. Then, this morning, the scraping noise when in gear and stationary is back (sounds like clutch).

Talked to the "second" service mgr, he says bring her on in.
