Purchased a 2001 SD with 70 miles about 2 weeks ago. My only concern is that its been sitting in a lot for a year and I want to make sure that it is broken-in properly. Should I shy away from additives at this stage? Any break-in advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rich

If it has been sitting on the lot for a year, I would change the engine oil ASAP. The recommended oil change interval is roughly every six months, and you have far surpassed that. Other than that, just avoid full throttle, high revs and constant revs for the first 1,500 to 3,000 miles or so, and it should be fine.

and avoid hard braking for 500 miles

And change the oil at 1000 miles and again at 3000 miles. Even if it was a waste of money, it made me feel better and it was cheaper than worrying about not doing it!

Oh, and to avoid hard breaking, learn to NOT hit the corner of the accellerator pedal as you apply the brakes. Karen's #1 Tip for Newbies! LOL!

Karen, ask me how I know! :)

a rock through the window works well, if you don't have access to a "Slim Jim" ;)

Try to keep your speeds low (see: actually follow the speed limits), and shift it into low range once in a while to work it in as well. Just watch your revs in low range, as they will be higher.
