it has been mentioned that accessing the CDL under the D2 is pretty simple, and that after the "first time it's super easy",as I think SoCAlJoe put it.

My question:Where is it and how do you do it? If it's easy, I may not go for any linkage to inside the vehicle, and just use it when I need to when things get tough on the trail Opinions?

While it's true that it's easy to get to and you can quickly develop a feel for where it is even if you can't see it, I would recommend the linkage. I don't know where you live but in Washington "off-road" usually means mud and lying on your back in the mud to engage/disengage the CDL gets old really quick.

Also, crawling under there all the time gives you opportunities for all kinds of dumb things to happen. For example, you slide under to engage the CDL and realize that a big ass millipede has just crawled inside your shirt. Instictively you reach to do something about it with the hand that isn't locking the CDL and "lightly graze" the y-pipe. This leaves you with a very pretty 3rd degree burn about the size of a 50 cent piece on the outside of your wrist and the eternal memory of watching a piece of your flesh slowly reduce to fat and cook away on the y-pipe. If your lucky the burn is bad enough to cauterize all of the nerve endings and it doesn't hurt like it should. Ask me how I know. Enough ranting. If you plan to use the CDL very often, get a linkage. It makes life easier.

I agree with Rick. I tried it once but opted out. The "nut" is located on top of the transfercase, and it not that easy to find from underneath. If I were stuck with a broken halshaft, I would of course crawl under and activate it.

Get a CDL lever from a DI and do the coversion, it is done in a day/weekend and it pretty ease if you follow the Morris Jessup intructions at Expedition Exchange. Heck if I can do it you can to! The best $100 upgrade you'll ever do on the DSII.

You will burn the shit out of your forearm trying to reach up there on the trail.
