Anyone running 255/85's on a Disco II with stock gears? I'm wondering how it is off road without going to 4.10s? |

Yep. For over a year now. I went from 265x75's to 255x85's and I couldn't really tell much difference. I will probably regear at some point after my warranty expires, but only because I'm going to add TrueTrac's front and rear, so I might as well regear at the same time. I don't get any more rubbing with 255's than I did with 265's because they are narrower to offset the height difference. You can see pictures in my gallery. Greg Bright |

Thanks Greg. I'm running 265/75's now so I was worried about the gearing of going to 33". But Now that I think of it I'm also worried about rubbing the front tires on my RTE sliders since they come very close now. Thanks for the feedback. |

Al, I have 285's which are 33" and while new gears would be nice, I also enjoy the lower RPM's at cruising speed. I have the RTE sliders and have not had any contact, and I don't have my sways on so I get a decent amount of flex. The sliders shouldn't be a concern. It looks close, but they don't rub. |

al, before worrying about gearing, worry about breakage. |

Yeah, Ho's right, I broke a rear half-shaft but it was from a 265x75. The difference between the two is only an inch. Either way, we need some stronger half-shafts. Hopefully Bill @GBR is gonna come through with some soon. I can tell you that a regear is not as necessary on a D2 than a D1. My D1 with 245x75's is nowhere near as responsive as my D2 with 255x85's. Both have stock gearing. It's amazing to me the difference when both vehicles have a 4.0 under the hood. Anybody know why? Greg Bright |

The diff's doing fine. No problems yet. It's still smooth and quiet. I've gotten on it pretty hard a couple of times since and haven't had any problems. It's up to 37k miles so only 13k to go before the TrueTrac's and new gears go in. Hopefully by then some HD half-shafts will be out too! Although, the dealer replaced my first one under warranty so free replacements aren't that bad of a deal either! Greg |

Mr. Bright, Gears and Trutracs?? Does this mean that the DII is going to stay?? Matt |

Yes, Mr Millbrandt, the D2 is staying. The D1, on the other hand is probably going. David wants to keep it. He misses going on our Rover club trips and there's no way in hell he's going to take that 2002 HSE out on the trails. So, I think I'm going to keep mine and he's going to keep the D1. Besides, D2's rule over D1's anyways! Greg |
