I recently brought a 1996 DI with about 50,000 miles. When I test drove the truck it had a loud squeal from the rear brakes while between 5-15 mph and when I was NOT applying the brakes. As soon as I applied pressure to the pedal to sqeaul/sqeauk stopped. The previous owner said he would change the rear pads before I picked it up. On the day I picked it up he had just finished putting Mintex? pads on the rear. I left and about a day later the loud sqeauling started again when I was off the brakes and at a slow speed. How do I get rid of this horrible noise, what about replacing the new Mintex's with LR Genuine Pads? Thanks. Proud new owner, Rich |

That wasnt really a quick question, now was it? As for the brakes, take the pads off. It could be that the guy didnt put them on right (left off a pin or something)or didnt replace them. If everything checks out, maybe they need to break in to the discs. If the squeel persists, replace with LR brand pads. |

Aaaahhh...Yes... I remember when I was the proud new owner of a used Rover. Believe me....this is just the first of many little odd problems you will have. Do not lose faith, my friend. Stick it out and you will be rewarded. The more you dive into those little problems, the more Zen-like your Rover-Owner relationship will become. Eventually, you will feel like you can do anything! |
