My 94 disco isn't actually overheating but when i am in traffic on a hot day the temp rises well over the normal horizontal position. If i blast the heater the temp falls. If i use the a/c the temp increases also. I think it might be the viscus unit, but do not want to spend $200 to find out that it is not the problem. I replaced the thermostat thinking that it was sticking but that wasn't the problem either. How do i know if the fan is not working. I hear it when i first start the car after it has been sitting but do not hear it again after that. Someone please help me with this because it is getting hot in Chicago and a black rover tends to get hot real fast. Thanks.

Use "watter wetter" too. It really helps.

i bought a fan clutch from Nathan Crabtree and it helped some. The old one was leaking fluid. Unfortunately, same symptoms appear on long trips and in heavy traffic during hot days. Radiator is next for me. Will try the water wetter also.

Steve,
To check the clutch get the truck good and hot. Turn it off and go out and try to turn the fan manually. If it turns easy the clutch isn't working. It should turn hard. As the temperature rises the fan should lock up and turn more. You can usually hear it. My fan roars like hell when it engages. I live in Atlanta so it happens a lot here.

Hope that helps,
neil

Check the coolant level. Mine does same thing and I put a gallon of coolant in when cold and problem clears up. I need to be looking thru old posts for the coolant leak at the firewall.
