My wife got stranded today when our 1998 Disco I LSE got a case of gremlins. She stopped at the neighborhood pharmacy and turned off the truck, got out and pressed her remote to lock the doos. Nothing happened. She then locked the driver's side door with the key, but it did not lock the other doors. She went into the store, came back out, unlocked the driver's door with the key and proceeded to start the car. IT WOULD NOT START and the alarm began to go off!! The system thought that the alarm was still armed! She was stuck. A friend picked her up and took her home. When I got to the scene, I hopped in the truck and started it right up! It was unlocked of course; when I got there. I drove it home, locked the driver's door (only, as it would not lock the other doors), unlocked it and got the same problem. The alarm sounded, thinking the system was still armed! What's the deal?!!? Why did the electric locks suddenly stop working?!!? Does anyone have a clue as to what to check? Many thanks in advance, John K. Tampa, FL |

I suffered through the same sorts of problems for a while. It started with those symptoms and then progressively got crazier and worse. It ended up being a bad ground from the battery. There is a ground running off the battery cable that attaches immediately to the wheel well just behind the battery and under the fuse block. Start by cleaning that connection, and procede to all of the other grounds from there. Maybe that is it, or it could be some other Lucas gremlin. Good luck! Mark |

By the way, I could count on it coming back to haunt me when I heard the radio squeal along with increased revs.... |

I found that a 15A fuse in the top fuse block (under the dash) had blown. After replacing it, everything works fine. However, it blew again this week and now I really need to track this down! Does anyone have any ideas? I'll start with Deadelus' suggestion first. |
